Reports of severe drought seem to be almost an annual phenomenon. Water managers yearn for water every spring. This year there is even talk of the biggest drought in forty years. Ditches are falling dry, groundwater is sinking far, and water quality is declining. In addition, low water levels in rivers have far-reaching consequences for inland shipping, industry, et cetera. Eekels Pumps is therefore experiencing top pressure, especially in these months.
Eekels handles the entire process, from engineering to assembly and 24/7 service.
The crux of the problem in the Netherlands is that after World War II, the country was designed to drain water to the sea as quickly as possible. Fields were drained, rivers channelized. Whereas with the ongoing drought, it is actually important to retain water longer and store more. In other words, we need to use it more sparingly and perhaps in a different way.
To prevent excessively low water levels, many water boards and municipal institutions call on Eekels Pumps to install temporary pump installations. "With a rental assortment of more than a thousand, we help our customers get a customized pump right away," says Pieter Molmans. "By applying temporary pump installations in the right locations, we can work with the water boards to ensure that we get water to the right places. Where water is needed."
The pump specialists can put together a customized solution.
Last year, Eekels installed a substantial pumping installation at the locks of the Albert Canal in Belgium. This allowed water to be pumped back from the downstream to the upstream channel. In order to deal with the exceptionally low Meuse discharge in this way. But Eekels is also creative with water in his own country. Molmans: "The low water level in the Lower Rhine caused a shortage of cooling water for local industry and inland navigation was severely hampered. We received the request on Sunday and a few days later our pumping installation was already running. In such rush jobs lies our strength. Our experience enables us to quickly assess a situation and act appropriately. Thus, we provide a pumping solution within a very short period of time."

Eekels exists more than a hundred years (!) and specializes in pump rental. "We combine pump rental with technical advice and additional services," Molmans continues. "Through expert advice as well as an extensive product range, we provide a total solution for every pumping problem. We are therefore 'preferred supplier' for many water boards, purification boards and municipalities. This close partnership for pump rental does not come out of the blue, but is the result of years of collaboration. We take care of the entire process, from engineering to assembly and 24/7 service. The wishes from the public sector are well known to us, which is why we proceed with VCA**-certified mechanics, place temporary pump installations with a comprehensive work plan and run pump installations day and night with our emergency service."

"In addition, our installations are used for sprinkling sports fields and cooling bridge decks, among other things. And is an authority facing another pumping problem? Then our pump specialists can put together a customized solution. This is how we jointly keep the consequences of climate change under control and combat drought," Molmans concludes.
