Safety starts with unambiguous communication. Workers wear hearing protection and Dutch is no longer the only language on the construction site. Construction speech is a universal "language" to increase safety in the construction and infrastructure industry. Using simple and recognizable gestures, workers can communicate effectively despite any language barrier or when there is a lot of ambient noise. The different (hand) gestures are presented on the website www.bouwspraak.nl shown and explained.
Eight languages
These are a number of mostly signaling gestures designed to quickly and easily alert each other to unsafe situations. For example, consider gestures for: Help, Stop, Down and Forward. The website is available in the languages Bulgarian, German, English, Hungarian, Dutch, Polish, Romanian and Turkish and is, of course, smartphone friendly.
Everyone safe at home
With Construction Speech, the industry is taking a step to increase safety in Construction & Infra. Safety starts with clear, universal communication for and by everyone. The employers' organizations are pleased with this important step towards a safer construction site. Construction must be safer!
Thick thumb
Workers' organizations such as FNV and CNV also warmly welcome the initiative. For years, they have been striving for greater safety on construction sites and compliance with safety regulations. Confusion and noise on the line due to roaring machines appear to play a crucial role in this. Bouwspraak is a nice elaboration of the collective bargaining agreement.
Working safely together
With Bouwspraak the sector parties FNV Bouwen & Wonen, CNV Vakmensen, Bouwend Nederland, Aannemersfederatie Nederland, Vereniging van Waterbouwers and NVB join forces for a safe sector. They endorse the importance of working safely together and are proud of the collaboration.
