Safety standard for movable bridges up for comment

The 2003 Dutch standard for movable bridges, NEN 6787, has been revised. This new version is now available for comment on the website. Comments can be submitted until September 20, 2020.

Draft NEN 6787-1:2020 'Safety of movable structures - Part 1: movable bridges' contains requirements and recommendations for the safe design of movable bridges over the entire life of the bridge. The types of bridges considered, hazardous situations and hazardous events taken into account are defined in this standard.

Safety

Functional safety requirements have changed significantly (NEN-EN-ISO 13849-1 and NEN-EN-IEC 62061) since the 2013 edition of NEN 6787. These requirements relate to the control technical safety of the bridge to move safely. As a result, much attention has been paid to the functional safety aspect in this standard draft and the previous reference to NEN-EN 954-1 has been removed. This draft standard specifies the minimum requirements for reliability levels (performance requirements) of safety functions belonging to the scope.

Suggestions for modifications can be given on this standard draft until Sept. 20, 2020 via www.normontwerpen.nen.nl. All comments received are considered by the committee and may lead to modification of the standards text. Commenters always receive a response from the committee.
