Unique app helps prevent excavation damage

To prevent dangerous situations, groundworkers are required by law to file an excavation notification in advance. In most cases, this Klic report is valid for only twenty working days. In a vast and long-term project, such as the dyke reinforcement between Tiel and Waardenburg, this is quite a time-consuming task. Unless you automate it. Construction consortium Mekante Diek therefore makes grateful use of GOconnectIT's Klic Everywhere Service, from which all subcontractors also benefit.

Klic Everywhere Service is a modular solution that automates the entire process and registration around Klic, so that the CROW500 and the WIBON are also immediately complied with. "It ensures that both the excavator and the network operator ultimately experience as little (excavation) damage and disruption as possible," begins Robin Mulder of GOconnectIT. "Ploegam and Dura Vermeer, which together with Van Oord form construction combination Mekante Diek, have been regular users of our solution for years. In fact, I think almost three-quarters of all groundworkers in the Netherlands do use at least our Klic App. And on various projects, our service goes even further and we even provide some project coordination, such as the reconstruction of the Julianaplein in Groningen."

Web-based application

The Klic App is well known in the market and, according to Robin, particularly suitable for individuals or smaller groundworkers, such as landscapers who request up to 150 Klics per year. "With the Klic Everywhere Service we go a step further and help to set up the entire process around Klic more efficiently. For this too, the Klic App is leading, but the web-based office application behind it is much more comprehensive," Robin explains. "From simply requesting and consulting Klic data, to viewing plan drawings in combination with the Klic and being able to control behavior based on data. It is also possible to create a predefined environment of a project. Design drawings and/or CAD files are overlaid on the map of the Netherlands for an optimal overview. This is the case with the dike reinforcement project between Tiel and Waardenburg, where the Klic workflow has been fully automated via our application. Another big advantage is that Mekante Diek can very easily roll out this workflow to all subcontractors via the Klic App."

Mekante Diek is very keen on the validity of Klic notifications, Robin knows. "Via the application you can very easily make a repeat request for a Klic notification for a certain date. That process runs completely automated. If you consider that a Klic report is usually valid for only twenty working days, the manual request takes about five minutes and the project takes about five years, then you won't be surprised that our Klic Everywhere Service saves a considerable amount of time and money."
