Every craftsman safe, even on the rolling scaffold

Every craftsman safe, even on rolling scaffold

Every professional in the construction and infrastructure industry safe at home! That, of course, includes workers who work with mobile scaffolds. Unfortunately, too many accidents still happen with mobile scaffolds. In addition, these are often accidents resulting in serious injuries. We can therefore say that working with mobile scaffolds is a major occupational risk. At the end of this year, the updated rolling scaffold standard EN 1004 goes into effect and therefore the A-sheet "Rolling Scaffolds" has also been updated.

Always safe

The A-Sheet Scaffolding aims to make working with mobile scaffolding safer, not only on the construction site but also behind the front door. The A-sheet also focuses on erection and dismantling. It is important for both employers and employees to be aware of the various regulations regarding erection, use, dismantling, storage and maintenance.

New rules for small scaffolding

The most important modification? The new European mobile scaffold standard EN 1004 contains requirements that now also apply to mobile scaffolds from a height of 0 meters instead of only to mobile scaffolds from a platform height of 2 meters. If you or your employees work with small scaffolds, for example in (living) rooms, then this modification will have concrete consequences for you. Provide information about the new A-sheet to your employees. Adapt mobile scaffolds in use to the new situation and ensure that new mobile scaffolds comply with the new A-sheet.

Industry co-production

This updated A-Sheet was created in collaboration with: Bouwend NederlandFNV Construction & HousingCNV Trade PeopleBuilding envelope Netherlands and Association of Scaffolding, Highwork and Concrete Formwork Companies (VSB). These parties are satisfied with the result:

Gerard Westenbroek, VSB industry manager: "A-sheets are the interpretation of product standards to the user on the construction site and in this case the standard for the mobile scaffold product has been translated into practical instructions for use to comply with Dutch legislation. An employer must provide employees with products that meet the requirements, laws and regulations. He must also provide information, knowledge and skills to work safely with the product. This A-sheet describes these matters clearly and unambiguously. The market benefits from clarity about the product and its safe use."

Robert Frank Houbaer, secretary Gebouwschil Nederland: "The A-Sheet helps reduce conflicting regulations. 'Equal footing' is something we think is important; the same safety measures for everyone. However, workability is also important. It has to be both safe and workable, even if this sometimes falters in practice. It is important for employees to be able to work comfortably and safely. This A-sheet contains the necessary provisions for this."

Clemens van den Enden, policy advisor Safety Bouwend Nederland: "Rolling scaffolds seem practical and harmless, but still cause many accidents. Bouwend Nederland is committed to improving safety in the sector. It is therefore important to have a good, up-to-date and readable manual on how to properly handle mobile scaffolds. That is the great value of this updated A-sheet. Employers can provide good equipment and workers can use it correctly. We hope this will help prevent accidents."
