From surveyor to project administrator

Digitization in the GWW sector. We can't ignore it anymore. "Make sure you are ready for it," says Rick Gillesen, product specialist SPS & software at SITECH Netherlands. "If you accept it, you yourself can have a great influence on its effect on your company."

Gillesen notes that within the industry the digitization of digging and the corresponding move to machine control has already taken place. "This allows you to do the work accurately right away. You can adjust your delivery accordingly, as well as your controls. This two-way traffic, so not only sending data to the machine but also requesting data back, is important for more efficient work in the future and for the progress of the project."

Embrace technology

According to Gillesen, the techniques and associated products are certainly not taking over the current tasks of the surveyor, but there is a shift toward a digital construction process. "In every step of a project, from calculation and work preparation, to execution and delivery, the surveyor makes an important contribution. But with the help of the right tools, machines or others can collect the necessary data from the field and the surveyor takes on another important role as the linchpin in the process. The surveyor has the right insights to drive everything in the field of data collection with his specific knowledge. And is thus responsible for managing the data files and making sure that the machines work with the right models. The surveyor is in fact data manager of the digital processes, so we speak rather of a project driver."
