A new bicycle storage facility is being built under water in the IJ with room for 4,000 bicycles. On top of the parking facility there will be a 6,000 square meter area: the IJboulevard. Lommers Welding Services realizes for contractor Van Hattum en Blankevoort a large number of anchoring and support structures in accordance with the NEN-EN 1090. The welding company uses a unique methodology. Thanks to the 'in house' cooperation with engineering firm Kok & van den Heuvel, the feasibility of the constructions is already tested during the design phase.

One of the important ambitions of the City of Amsterdam is to create more space for pedestrians. Since sidewalks are used for multiple functions and the city's crowds are increasing, space for pedestrians is not a given in the capital. Therefore, the underground parking is designed as an extension of the public space. Extra spacious stairwells with large areas of glass already provide a view of the light and inviting parking facility from the boulevard. The spacious and column-free design of the parking facility, combined with generous daylight and good visibility and central position of the manager, make the visitor feel safe at any time of the day.

Integral thinking

Lommers Welding Services was engaged by Van Hattum en Blankevoort at an early stage to shed its light on the anchoring construction, stairway elements and joint transitions, among other things. "Because we work very closely with engineering firm Kok & van den Heuvel, we can eliminate errors that we often see occur between preparation and execution at an early stage," says Gerda Lommers of Lommers Welding Services. "We think integrally with our clients so that together we arrive at a robust design with fewer changes towards execution. Indeed, manufacturability and safety are tested several times during the process. We continue to constantly develop and focus on both high quality, safety and the latest standards, and this in an environment where we put the family feeling first."

Smart implementation methodologies

We work a lot on projects where an execution class according to the NEN-EN 1090 execution class 1 to 4 and/or the ROK is applicable, continues Lommers Welding. "Through an 'in house' collaboration with engineering firm Kok & van den Heuvel, we often manage to nip failure costs in the bud already and come up with 'smart' execution methods. That is truly unique for a welding company. "For example, we have modified the initial detailed design of the anchoring construction of the staging in the IJ, which we incidentally produce under CE in our Purmerend workshop, in order to guarantee better quality control during the process. The assembly of these structures will soon take place 5 meters below the water surface in the IJ. The trinity -Lommers Welding, engineering firm Kok & van den Heuvel and MABA Waterland, makes that we can completely relieve clients with an integral and manufacturable solution."
