Anchor piles holding a tunnel box in place. Grout anchors that absorb enormous forces. Soilmix walls that make dikes stronger. These are the specialties of Bauer Funderingstechniek, for years a reliable partner in the Dutch infrastructure and construction sector.

The company is part of the international Bauer Spezialtiefbau, with more than 10,000 employees and sales of 2.1 billion euros. From Dutch polders to skyscrapers in the heart of Dubai: you see Bauer at work everywhere. Thanks to that large organization, there is a wide pool of people and equipment available. “As a result, we can always respond to large and complex projects,” says managing director Eelco van der Velde.

A special division of Bauer develops its own new foundation machines. And importantly, the personnel are highly motivated. “For execution on the construction sites, we bring in our own employees from Germany; they work hard, are disciplined and well trained.”

A recent project is the A9 Badhoevedorp-Holendrecht, where Bauer and partner DVT are drilling some 12,000 anchor piles up to 40 meters deep. “These anchor piles ensure that the 1.6-kilometer-long tunnel box remains stable under enormous groundwater pressure. It is the largest project we have ever carried out in the Netherlands.” Bauer is also involved in ViA15, between Arnhem and Nijmegen. “There, too, will be a sunken trough where we and our partner will drill thousands of anchor piles.”

In addition, Bauer deploys its soilmix technique in dike reinforcements. Here, soil is mixed with grout to form a homogeneous building material, which is used to create water retaining walls. “With this method, we prevent underflooding and increase the stability of levees,” he says.”

Many projects have been stalled for years due to legislation and procedures, as with the nitrogen file. “But the acid is behind us, now it is time to catch up,” Van der Velde concludes. “Our people do what they promise and deliver high quality. That is the culture by which we make the difference.”
