Through two projects, BUKO Infrasupport, BUKO Bereikbaar and BUKO Waakt show what they are capable of when they join forces. Whether it is a large-scale event or a regional closure, the close cooperation between the BUKO divisions leads to efficient traffic measures, smart digital solutions and targeted safety provisions.
The start of the Tour de France Femmes in South Holland was one of the major operations for BUKO Infrasupport. Over hundreds of kilometers, 1,600 intersections had to be secured and coordinated. "The biggest challenge was the turnaround time," says Sander Boeringa of BUKO Infrasupport. "We only had 45 minutes to close roads before the platoon arrived."
With more than 3,000 traffic signs and 28 teams on the road, everything was coordinated from a central command post. BUKO Bereikbaar took care of the digital information provision, such as social media, LED screens, Mell (the chatbot) and, where necessary, a live chat. "We made sure that local residents were informed in a timely and clear manner," says project coordinator Gert Norg of BUKO Bereikbaar. "Because improving someone's experience of inconvenience starts with early and correct information."
BUKO's joint effort was met with praise. Tour director Christian Prudhomme called the operation "magnifique" and handed out "un grand merci" for BUKO's indispensable support.
The closure of the Elburger Bridge on behalf of the Province of Flevoland, where business owners and residents faced detour of up to 50 kilometers, was another challenge. The cooperation between BUKO Infrasupport, BUKO Bereikbaar and BUKO Waakt was essential to limit disruption and ensure safety.
"We paid a lot of attention to communication with stakeholders at the express request of the province, by involving, informing and accepting them, before the work started," says Henk Hamering of BUKO Infrasupport. With smart digital solutions, such as LED screens and countdown 'counters,' the surrounding area was informed in a timely manner. BUKO Waakt provided additional security through supervision and surveillance at crucial locations. A guarded bicycle parking area was also provided, so that residents could cross the bridge by bicycle and continue their journey on the other side.
"This project shows what BUKO is strong at," said Henk. "We identify problems and solve them together. Thanks to the integration of BUKO Infrasupport, BUKO Bereikbaar and BUKO Waakt everything went smoothly. Expected traffic problems and highly charged emotions were avoided because motorists were timely informed and diverted via digital platforms, such as navigation systems and social media. This shows the power of our combined approach."
These projects show how the various disciplines within BUKO provide complete traffic solutions. By combining physical, digital and security measures, they ensure efficient traffic flow, clear communication and maximum safety.
