Beyond A to B: Transportation company commits to a sustainable future

De Bruyn Transport is highly committed to a green future; a modern and annually renewed fleet, working according to the latest CO2 standards and safety certifications, and attention to sustainable employability of the team. In short, sustainability from within. At the end of 2021, the Oudewater-based transport company will launch its new name and a renewed logo, paving the way towards a sustainable, safe and enjoyable future.

De Bruyn Transport, formerly known as Transportbedrijf G. de Bruyn, has specialized in transport and commodity trading for the GWW industry for over 50 years. This ranges from sand and gravel to crushed rubble, (milling) asphalt and dredging slip to the supply and removal of loose materials. "Last year alone we were involved in a wide variety of infrastructure projects," says Tirza de Bruyn who, together with her brother Joeri, forms the current management. "For example, we were involved from day one in the Blankenburg connection on behalf of construction consortium BAAK for transport including the necessary project supervision. We also assisted Boskalis, Vermeulen Benthuizen, Beelen and many other contractors in various projects in (major) maintenance of the (highway) road network and we were commissioned by Beens Dregging to take care of the transport of dredging from water reclamation and nature reserve the Klotputten."

De Bruyn Transport is not just a transporter, but a full-fledged logistics partner for clients.

"We are not just a transporter, but a full-fledged logistics partner for our clients," continues Tirza. "We provide coordination, planning, supervision, supply and removal of loose materials and the deployment of manpower and equipment. The bigger the challenge, the more fun. That's our strength. We are equipped as an organization to work day and night with our 120 employees and a large fleet of vehicles. We sometimes face big challenges that we tackle with both hands as a team. Time and again we have seen how incredibly loyal our people are. We really do things together. When we have to, everyone is there, always. As management, we have experienced firsthand over the years how important it is to do our work with positive determination and good mental and physical health. You can buy a fleet of cars, but conscious, healthy and motivated people cannot. With this in mind, within our company we pay a lot of attention to development and sustainable employability. With a vitality program and various outings and activities focusing on fun and health, we provide tools and create space for further development. After all, drivers all drive a car individually. For example, we recently went 'supping' and organized a business boxing clinic where not only sport but also mindset, responsibility, communication and fun were central."

De Bruyn Transport pays close attention to development and sustainable employability.

"We see our people as our most important players, the bearers of our business. That is why we work with attention to the themes of safety, health and sustainability. For example, 2022 is going to be all about driving behavior optimization to minimize CO2 emissions. With a comprehensive program we make people aware of their own influence on issues such as safety and sustainability so that everyone will contribute a little bit in their own way," summarizes Tirza. "We plant the 'green' seeds and provide an environment where there is room for growth and development. It goes without saying that as an organization we are committed to a completely sustainable future. For example, our vehicle fleet almost completely meets Euro VI emissions requirements and we are in continuous discussions with partners such as Mercedes-Benz and Scania to include electric vehicles in our fleet. For construction vehicles, that development is still in full swing, but we expect to take our first electric vehicles on the road next year. Finally, we will soon be audited for the CO2 Performance Ladder and the Safety Culture Ladder. All in all, then, it's not for nothing that we say, beyond A to B."
