For 50 years, Tensar International has helped engineers, contractors and clients in the civil engineering industry deliver successful projects. Whether you need construction time, cost or CO2 want to reduce: for Tensar, as a global market leader in the development, production and supply of geosynthetics, it's no problem. Innovation, sustainability and reliability are important core values for Tensar. Paul ter Horst, Area Manager Benelux at Tensar, explains.
"We are always looking for reliable, innovative solutions for our civil engineering products and services. And we like to make the world a little more sustainable. Our geogrids are manufactured from oriented high-density polyethylene (HDPE) or polypropylene (PP). In addition, after independent full-scale testing, they carry all technical and environmental certifications, such as EPDs and the NMD data sheets. Thus Tensar provides durable and reliable solutions that really add value."
"Our main product for realizing foundations under roads? That's our new InterAx geogrids. Our best ever geogrid is used in countless civil engineering projects worldwide, and for good reason," Ter Horst says. "The InterAx geogrid provides a strong, rigid foundation layer with great ability to spread the load better. Thus, the geogrid has a high resistance to deformation due to the effective mechanical stabilization of the foundation material."
Another convenient benefit? "Using our InterAx geogrid can result in a 50% reduction in foundation thickness. This results in less transportation required, lower construction and transportation costs, and higher CO2-reduction. As a result, our geogrids have a much better MKI (Environmental Cost Indicator) score than those of our competitors. Great for the contractor and great for the environment!"
At Tensar, they like to come to market with a complete package. "Not only do we have an innovative geogrid, but we are also coming out with a brand new calculation program: Tensar +. This is a cloud-based software solution for all applications of our geogrids. You can think of it as an app with calculations according to national guidelines (CROW1001)."
Ter Horst says: "It works very simply: you perform the calculation on your phone from the construction site and you immediately see what you save on construction costs, construction time and CO2-emissions. The software is available to everyone. And does something change in the software? Then you can download the update right away!"
Tensar believes it is important to test its products properly. Ter Horst explains: "This allows us to actually demonstrate the benefits of our products. And the results are impressive: because roads constructed with our geogrids have a demonstrably longer service life."
"We are also using a new design technique (LAAMS). For example, when calculating our road structures, we capture several aspects that affect performance, such as tire thickness. This makes our method more reliable than current guidelines. And reliability is paramount!"
