In infrastructure, standing still is not an option. Every day, visible work is carried out on roads, railways, dykes, and an underground network of pipes and cables to ensure an accessible, sustainable, and safe Netherlands. Less visible is the complexity behind these projects: multidisciplinary, large-scale, and dynamic.
As projects become larger, more complex, and more unpredictable, processes must continue to run smoothly. Reliably, efficiently, and without disruption. This requires digital systems that are as tightly organized as they are agile. “Many infrastructure companies are looking for precisely that balance,” says Hein Kleefstra, account manager at VanMeijel. “They want to optimize their business operations, but also be able to respond to market dynamics. That is precisely where the strength of the Metacom platform lies.”

Most ERP systems started out as accounting packages, explains Kleefstra. “That makes them strong in terms of structure, but less suitable for the project-based reality of infrastructure. Metacom, on the other hand, was built from that project practice. The basis is not accounting-oriented, but process-oriented. This makes it possible to manage calculation, execution, logistics, and finances in one coherent system, without losing sight of daily practice.”
According to him, Metacom forms the digital foundation on which infrastructure companies can build. “From equipment management to cost control: everything comes together in one environment. The system offers standardization where possible, but remains flexible where necessary. This is essential for many companies operating in a world where no two projects are the same.”

Where Metacom primarily optimizes internal processes, BizzStream connects the outside world. “With BizzStream, you can digitize workflows across the boundaries of your organization,” says Kleefstra. “From receipts and time registrations to approval processes for deviations: everything is processed digitally and automatically linked to the right projects. This creates a single data stream throughout the entire chain, from client to subcontractor.”
According to Kleefstra, the main benefits lie in integration and real-time insight. “BizzStream literally acts as the glue between systems and parties. It eliminates manual work from processes and makes collaboration easier, faster, and more transparent. By combining data in a smart way, it also provides better insight into performance and risks.”

As a Dutch family business with its own software development, VanMeijel occupies a unique position, adds commercial director Peter Winkeler. “More and more software companies are being taken over by investors or are completely dependent on American ‘Big Tech’. This makes it increasingly difficult to influence developments, relationships, and prices. With us, it's different. We are not just a software supplier, but above all a strategic partner. Customers have a direct influence on the further development of our solutions through industry consultations, sounding board groups, and studios. This allows us to respond quickly to the needs of the sector.”
This approach is also noticeable in the market, Winkeler points out. “More and more companies are realizing that digitization is not a project with an end date, but a continuous process. Its strength lies in collaboration, knowledge sharing, and innovation. These are precisely the values on which we are built.”
Kleefstra calls the combination of the organization, Metacom, and BizzStream the perfect trinity. “People are at the heart of business operations, Metacom lays the digital foundation, and BizzStream connects everything together. That cohesion makes organizations future-proof.”
Artificial intelligence will be an important theme in the coming years. Winkeler: “For us, AI is not an end in itself, but a way to make people and processes smarter. Think of predictive analyses for project progress or the automatic recognition of deviations in registrations. We use AI where it adds value. Ultimately, technology should always support the professional, not the other way around.”
According to both gentlemen, the future of digitization in infrastructure revolves around trust. “Digitization is not a means of control, but a means of working better together,” says Kleefstra. “Those who automate processes and use data intelligently create space for craftsmanship and collaboration. That is what makes the sector stronger.”
