Reinforcement is essential for making structures strong, durable, and safe, and forms the backbone of all concrete engineering structures in infrastructure. The reconstruction of the De Nieuwe Meer junction on the A10 South motorway also involves a considerable amount of reinforcement, for which the TriAX construction consortium is calling on the expertise of Spanberg Wapening.
For the reconstruction of the De Nieuwe Meer junction, a large number of structures need to be widened and several new ones built. Spanberg Wapening is responsible for designing, supplying, and installing the reinforcement. “We use both 2D and 3D modeling to design the reinforcement,” says Dennis Knaap, director of Spanberg Wapening. “This allows the construction consortium to optimally prepare and coordinate the implementation.” According to Knaap, special attention is being paid to prefabricated reinforcement components. “This approach contributes to faster and safer execution at the construction site.”

The 3D reinforcement models also form the input for Spanberg's bending machines, which are also responsible for installing the reinforcement. “For us, the project consists of two main parts,” says Knaap. “The first involves the construction of three new bridges over the Schinkel. We will use approximately 1,700 tons of reinforcement in these movable bridges. The structural requirements and technical complexity of these bridges demand a high degree of precision and cooperation between design and execution.” The second part involves the construction of approximately eleven structures, with a combined reinforcement weight of around 1,500 tons. Spanberg is also making an integral contribution to this, from detailing to assembly, with a focus on quality, sustainability, and efficiency.
With its contribution to the renovation of the A10 South, Spanberg once again confirms its position as a reliable partner in civil concrete construction. “By combining knowledge of structural reinforcement with innovative working methods, we achieve interesting efficiency gains for the construction consortium,” concludes Knaap.
