Dynamic traffic management part at specialist in temporary traffic measures

A company that specializes in optimizing flow and safety in temporary traffic situations is BUKO Infrasupport. Recently, they have a dynamic traffic management department that has developed a new traffic control automaton. With this addition to their product portfolio, BUKO Infrasupport is able to meet every wish of a road authority in terms of temporary traffic control installations.

BUKO Infrasupport's NEN-certified temporary traffic control installations were used in the replacement work on the Maasboulevard in Rotterdam.

"We thus provide the absolute total picture in terms of temporary traffic measures," said Thijs Lamers, manager of Dynamic Traffic Management at BUKO Infrasupport. The company started with temporary traffic lights in 2015, back then it fell under the equipment service. In 2021, Lamers established Dynamic Traffic Management as a specialized department within the organization.

From permanent to temporary

BUKO Infrasupport distinguishes itself in the field of cordoning and detour and provides the complete picture of temporary traffic measures. For each project and location. From advice and permit application to implementation and monitoring. "As soon as electricity, such as traffic lights, was involved, this was often the responsibility of the equipment department. With the right knowledge in-house and the necessary certifications, which we obtained entirely independently, it's time we also started calling out that we can offer this," Lamers believes. "We started with a vending machine from a German manufacturer. But from increasing demand from grid operators for the ability to operate the temporary installation from their own traffic center, we invested in an automaton from Dutchfabricate (Dynniq). They supply a permanent installation that supports the standard for this in the Netherlands (CCOL and IVERA). We then made this installation suitable as a temporary solution."

Replacement traffic lights busiest intersections Rotterdam

As part of the Top 10 major works to keep Rotterdam accessible, attractive and safe, all traffic lights are being replaced at the Maasboulevard. This concerns the traffic lights at the intersections between Schiedamsedijk and Burgemeester Oudlaan, the busiest intersections in the city. To ensure traffic flow for road users during the work, BUKO Infrasupport's NEN-certified temporary traffic control installations (VRI) are being deployed. "With a total of 71 traffic lights, 70 concrete boxes, 4 temporary whip masts, 3 automatons and 2 spans at 10 meters height over the streetcar track, the first three intersections at the Maasboulevard have been addressed. Quite a job, involving various scenarios. Thanks to the emergency power present, the temporary traffic lights continue to function. Even when the power is disconnected from the existing box during the replacement," says Lamers. "Thorough preparation and good cooperation between the men of dynamic traffic management and the Rotterdam Regional Office have made this work a success. The intersections with Willem Ruyslaan, Burgemeester Oudlaan and Honingerdijk will be addressed in early 2022. "We always put safety first and the customer first," says Lamers and concludes, "Thanks to clear agreements and the right measures, work on projects can proceed smoothly and traffic is affected as little as possible. And this project is just another fine example of that."
