Framework contract RWZI Tilburg awarded to Mobilis-Croonwolter&dros combination

Water board De Dommel has awarded the framework contract for various modifications to the Tilburg Sewage Treatment Plant to the combination Mobilis-Croonwolter&dros (CMC), and its partners in the Water Purifications Alliance (WZA) Tauw and RWB. For a period of 3 years with an extension option of another 3 years, large-scale modifications to the water treatment plant will be carried out in a construction team context.

Integral cooperation

The framework agreement will be executed in an integral partnership between Mobilis and Croonwolter&dros. For consultancy services and engineering TAUW is involved and for the mechanical engineering activities RWB Water is the permanent chain partner.

The contract was awarded in part on the basis of a plan of action and an interview, in which the vision for long-term cooperation, organization, cost efficiency, planning and room for innovation and opportunity were the central themes.

Tilburg WWTP

The sewage treatment plant in Tilburg treats wastewater from Tilburg, Udenhout, Berkel-Enschot and Biezenmortel. The treatment plant currently has a capacity of 340,000 population equivalents (this will be increased to 425,000 in this project) and discharges the treated water into the Zandleij River. In 2017, the energy plant was opened on the site of the Tilburg sewage treatment plant. Sludge from all of Waterschap De Dommel's sewage treatment plants is processed and fermented here. Biogas is formed in the process. A cogeneration plant uses this biogas to generate heat and electricity. As a result, the Tilburg purification works energy-neutral and even biogas remains. The surplus biogas is currently delivered to neighbor Attero, which converts it to natural gas quality. That is delivered back to the central gas grid. Waterschap De Dommel wants to be completely energy-neutral by 2025 and in mid-2022 will also put its own green gas reprocessing plant into operation where all the biogas can be converted into green gas that is supplied to the central gas grid. The CO2 released during reprocessing will also be stored.
