The Netherlands consists of almost 20% of water. Water that regularly plays tricks on us during floods or washes away land as it does on the coast, with all its consequences. Bosch Beton, as a retaining wall manufacturer, is increasingly involved in water protection projects that require a sustainable solution.
The use of precast concrete retaining walls as water barriers holds back (excess) water, preventing flooding or runoff. "We currently produce retaining walls and specials in a variety of sizes and shapes up to 7.5 meters in height," says Gerard van den Bosch, CEO of Bosch Beton. A retaining wall protects against a maximum water height required for, for example, a dam, ditches and gullies, swimming pond or shoring at the water's edge. High retaining walls are also a solid solution for larger and more complex water works such as quay walls along canals and dikes.
In Enschede, Bosch Beton collaborated on the Stadsbeek project. In the future, this new stream should prevent flooding in the Pathmos and Stadsveld neighborhoods. For this, they supplied 400 meters of special retaining wall in one piece. Special retaining walls have been incorporated in the self-closing water barrier in Spakenburg. This special flood barrier protects the historic center of Spakenburg from flooding. The innovative solution for the renovation of the sewage treatment plant in Almelo called for a specialist approach. Even a specialized diving team was needed to place the retaining walls in the water. For the new Bergsche Maas intake station in De Biesbosch National Park, the manufacturer produced special retaining walls. In these retaining walls with structure, they spared burrows in which swallows nest. A radical transformation of the De Zilk sports complex in Noordwijkerhout led to the construction of a new watercourse. Here they opted for a sustainable solution with 900 meters of retaining walls.
"Customers know how to find Bosch Beton for sustainable solutions in GWW projects. For example, we make special platform walls for the ProRail project 'Platforms at Standard' with a low MKI value. We produce our retaining walls according to a sustainable production process and we work with high-quality raw materials. This allows us to ensure that our products possibly get a second life and are fully recyclable again after their lifetime," concludes the CEO of Bosch Beton.
