Engineering and consulting firms Antea Group and Arcadis, together with Posad Maxwan and TwynstraGudde, won the tender to improve public transport connections between Amsterdam and the Haarlemmermeer. The study focuses on several public transport solutions: expansion of the railroad and Schiphol Gate Tunnel, the extension of the North/South line and a high-frequency bus connection. The exclusive framework contract includes preparation of an environmental impact assessment, social cost-benefit analysis, technical elaborations, spatial adaptations and services aimed at project management. The agreement runs for a maximum of eight years. The parties announced this on Tuesday, March 26.
The Amsterdam-Haarlemmermeer public transport connection (OVAH) is a joint project of the municipalities of Amsterdam and Haarlemmermeer, the Ministry of Infrastructure and Water Management, the Province of North Holland, the Transport Region of Amsterdam, Royal Schiphol Group, Schiphol Area Development Company and Dutch Railways. Working closely with these parties, Arcadis, Antea Group, Posad Maxwan and TwynstraGudde are studying solutions to capacity problems in the Schiphol Gate Tunnel and at Schiphol Airport and Amsterdam Zuid stations. This project will contribute to better public transport accessibility of existing and new residential/work locations in the area and to intensification of international train traffic.
'Making the Netherlands more beautiful and livable, that is our aim and it certainly applies to this collaboration,' said Antea Group business line director Mobility Ka-Lung To. 'In such a complex project as this, many interests come together. Together with the client, the OVAH project office, our strong combination ensures that we answer the question of how to make the region more accessible with good public transport.'
'We would like to use our knowledge and expertise to contribute to a sustainably accessible Netherlands,' said Arcadis Director of Mobility Tanya Sancisi. 'This is not only about technical integration, but also about the effects on the environment. And it fits perfectly with our passion: Improving quality of life. We look forward to working with all parties.'
