Steelwrist SQ is a high-quality fully automatic oil connection used in quick couplers and tiltrotators on excavators to connect hydraulic attachments. The SQ50 quick couplers and tiltrotators for medium excavators are new additions to the Steelwrist range of SQ products.
At bauma, Steelwrist is also presenting X02, a new model in the tiltrotator range, for excavators under 2.5 tons.
Steelwrist expands its range of quick couplers and tiltrotators with SQ50, a fully automatic high-flow and Open-S compatible solution for medium excavators
The new range of SQ50 quick couplers and tiltrotators is designed for excavators from 7-13 tons. Steelwrist SQ is a high-quality fully automatic oil connection used in quick couplers and tiltrotators on excavators to connect hydraulic attachments. Excellent flow characteristics and competitive build height and weight are key advantages of SQ50. SQ50 meets the specifications of the Open-S standard for fully automatic quick couplers.
S50 and SQ50 quick couplers are cast steel and feature the secure Steelwrist Front Pin Lock double locking feature. Front Pin Lock is a mechanical locking of the front axle that significantly reduces the risk of unintentional dropping of attachments.
The X12 and X14 tiltrotators have been redesigned with a new suspension and quick coupler to make it possible to upgrade from S50 to SQ50 at a later stage, even if the customer did not include SQ in the original order.
SQ on the top (suspension) of the tiltrotator for quick changeover between tiltrotator and other attachments, and SQ on the bottom (quick changer) of the tiltrotator provide quick changeover between hydraulic attachments. By using SQ, tiltrotator attachments can be made cheaper, since the rotation function is included in the tiltrotator.
"With the introduction of SQ50 fully automatic quick couplers and tiltrotators, we become a game-changer in the growing 10-ton excavator segment with flow capacities of 120 liters per minute with low back pressure. This enables efficient use of high-flow attachments, even for medium-sized excavators," says Stefan Stockhaus, CEO of Steelwrist AB.
With the introduction of the SQ50, the Qplus technology has been updated to enable even higher flow rates, adding another 20% to the flow capacity, allowing users to also use the high flow rate that attachments require on medium excavators.
With the introduction of SQ50, Steelwrist will also introduce a new Absolute Rotation Sensor in 2022 to give higher accuracy to Machine Control Systems. Full implementation is expected in the first quarter of 2023. Together with Steelwrist Autotilt, this will provide even higher productivity.
The Steelwrist range of SQ fully automatic quick couplers includes models for excavators up to 70 tons. The latest addition to SQ's range of products for the demolition industry, the SQ90 quick coupler, will also be presented at the Steelwrist booth.
All Steelwrist SQ products follow the worldwide Open-S industry standard for fully automatic quick couplers for excavators. This means that the SQ system is designed to connect to other brands according to the Open-S standard.
The installation of tiltrotators on small excavators is beginning to grow worldwide, and in response Steelwrist is now introducing the new X02, a tiltrotator suitable for excavators of 1.5-2.5 tons. The X02 can be supplied a full range of attachments, resulting in increased efficiency and versatility, turning even the smallest excavators into true "Tool-carriers.
The X02 tiltrotator has a number of innovative features and comes with a Direct Fit or an S30 suspension for connection to the excavator. The quick change (bottom) of the tiltrotator is available in a hydraulic interlock for S30. The hydraulic change version with the integrated Front Pin Hook is probably the only tiltrotator in this class that offers the safety to meet CE requirements.
The X02 is positioned between the smallest TCX tiltrotator for machines under 2 tons and the X04 tiltrotator for excavators from 2.5 to 4 tons. Once again, the focus was on making a fully cast product with the best strength-to-weight ratio and low build height.
With a complete set of Steelwrist S30 attachments for the X02 tiltrotator, such as a wide, backhoe, trencher and embankment bucket, asphalt cutter and ripper, the excavator turns into an efficient and versatile tool carrier that works in a wide range of applications. In the fall of 2022, a multi-gripper will be added to the equipment range for X02. This turns the excavator into an efficient and versatile tool carrier that can work in a wide range of applications.

Steelwrist is a member of the German trade association VDMA (Verband Deutscher Maschinen- und Anlagenbau e.V.). The VDMA working group MiC 4.0 aims to create a uniform, manufacturer-independent and machine-independent digital communication around the construction process. For attachments, this includes an open interface for the tiltrotator control system.
Communication of attachments with the carrier is a very important safety aspect. The goal is to establish good communication between the attachment and the carrier to accurately identify the attachment. This should transmit the necessary settings for safe operation, prevent potential hazards and facilitate the operation of attachments independent of the carrier.
