Every piece of work equipment must be inspected annually by an expert in the field of inspections. According to the Occupational Health and Safety Act, any person who considers himself competent can and may inspect work equipment. And you can demonstrate that competence in various ways, such as with Aboma's AMTeK system. A major advantage of this system is that you can inspect equipment and interchangeable attachments (yes, they too must be inspected annually) yourself at a time that suits you.
With the AMTeK system, Aboma teaches your employees to inspect themselves. "We provide the training, which consists of both a theoretical and practical part," explains Mario Rovers, Manager AMTeK at Aboma. "The theory consists of covering all the ground rules around inspection in order to then work with this in practice on your own machines and interchangeable attachments. At AMTeK we do not believe in spot checks, re-examinations or refresher courses. No, we plan an annual inspection supervision where an Aboma inspector performs an inspection together with the AMTeK inspector. The inspector looks along, gives 'tips and tricks' and offers support where necessary."
As widely as Aboma inspects, so widely is the AMTeK system used. "Earth-moving machines are becoming more and more multifunctional. A wide range of interchangeable attachments makes them incredibly versatile," Mario notes. "From bucket to fork board and from stone clamp, vibrating block to hydraulic demolition hammer, it can all be 'knotted' to the machine these days. Keep in mind, however, that those attachments are also work equipment and thus must be inspected annually for demonstrably safe use. But then again, today the fork carriage hangs on machine A, the next week on machine B. So when a machine is subjected to an inspection, not every attachment can necessarily be included. That is why we have included a separate module in AMTeK for these attachments."
The status of the attachments can be accessed in the AMTeK portal. "Each attachment comes with a separate digital report, and through the sticker on the attachment you can see when it was last inspected," says Mario. "In fact, inspection via AMTeK is completely digital via an app and/or url connection, and can be done at your convenience. For example, if a machine or attachment is in the workshop for maintenance or repair, you can perform the inspection in that same flow. That generally leads to less downtime. Mechanics who perform maintenance can also perform the inspection under AMTeK. A win-win situation that ensures optimum efficiency and demonstrably safe deployment of machines and attachments."
