Renault Trucks E Tech D with ROM e SmartCombi PRO for Willemsen Infra

ROM b.v., manufacturer of vacuum machines and sewer cleaning vehicles, among others, introduces the world's first 100% electrically powered sewer vehicle with a capacity of 4,000 liters. The vehicle, a Renault Trucks E Tech D with ROM e SmartCombi PRO, is completely emission-free. The truck was delivered to ROM by Renault Trucks dealer Harbers Trucks. In turn, ROM delivered the world first to Willemsen Infra BV from Utrecht.

Presented at the last IFAT Munich, the vehicle is the answer to the environmental zones, or even zero emission zones that many cities want to introduce. The zones are established to reduce CO 2 emissions and improve the environment in urban areas. Dennis Brian, managing director of ROM notices that the world is changing rapidly. "In many cities in which our customers operate there are increasingly stringent emissions requirements, in the short term zero emissions will become the norm. For us reason to develop a 100% electric sewer cleaning vehicle. It is a sustainable innovation that suits our company. The Renault Trucks E Tech D with ROM e SmartCombi PRO is the first zero emission sewer combi with a capacity of 4,000 liters."

Renault Trucks dealer Harbers Trucks has extensive knowledge of electromobility

The Renault Trucks E Tech D proved very suitable for the body. The synchronization between the truck and combi is excellent. The machine itself is driven by an ePTO. The battery of the Renault truck provides enough capacity for both functions. The ePTO consumes about 40 kWh and the driving range about 192 kWh. It can be driven 100 km before needing to be recharged. This is more than sufficient when used in the city. "For this project, the cooperation with Harbers Trucks was very important. They have very extensive knowledge of electromobility and can therefore really advise. In recent years we have built up a personal relationship with them so that the lines of communication are short and we can switch quickly."

Started transition to electric three years ago

This first electric sewer combi has been delivered to Willemsen Infra BV, an all-round company in ground, road and hydraulic engineering. Already three years ago, Willemsen Infra decided to opt for electric in case of replacement. This applies to cars, vans, mini excavators and now also this sewer combi. "The municipality of Utrecht is a major customer of ours and they want the urban area to be CO 2 neutral by 2030," says Justin Willemsen, director/owner of Willemsen Infra. "For us reason to accelerate the transition to electrically driven vehicles."

The truck is deployed in downtown Utrecht, but also in the municipalities of Woerden, Oudewater and Stichtse Vecht. "So the truck makes quite a lot of kilometers, yet recharging during the day is not necessary. It suffices to charge the truck in the evening at one of the 15 charging points we have. And is there a calamity in the evening or night, that too is no problem, even after a day on the road the battery is not empty."
