The 3CX PRO is a two-wheel-steered machine, the 4CX PRO features all-wheel steering for better performance on any terrain and the also four-wheel-steered 5CX PRO delivers the ultimate dig/load combination specification when cubic meters need to be converted.
The main features are:
For Stage V, the 4.4-liter JCB 444 engine has been replaced by the more powerful 4.8-liter JCB 448. The previous output of 68 kW (91 hp) becomes an output of 81 kW (108 hp), with 516 Nm of torque, for industry-leading performance on the road and when loading.
The JCB 448 engine benefits from a diesel oxidation catalyst and a combined selective catalytic reduction / diesel particulate filter (SCR / DPF) with a service life of 8,000 hours. JCB's LiveLink telematics service also monitors DPF regeneration, which is performed automatically to prevent machine downtime. There is no need for exhaust gas recirculation(EGR) and the valve clearance checking/adjustment intervals go from 2,000 hours to 4,000 hours, significantly reducing downtime over the life of the machine.
The 55 kW (74 hp) 3.0-liter Stage V engine introduced last year in the 750,000th Special Edition model has now become the 3CX ECO. There are also new 3CX and 4CX PLUS models, with four-speed transmission options.
The 3CX, 4CX and 5CX PRO models benefit from a range of advanced automation features designed to increase productivity and ease of use. This includes Auto Stop, which detects when the machine is no longer in use and shuts off the engine to reduce fuel consumption and unnecessary engine wear. The time period prior to shutdown can be set by the operator.
Auto Seat Select and Auto Stabilizers are standard on servo models, with the seat now recognizing which direction it is turned and automatically switching between loading and digging modes. In addition to the existing Auto-up outriggers, the system can now automatically extend and stop the outriggers when the legs touch the ground. Auto Level, on AEC models, automatically levels the machine on uneven ground.
The Auto Drive feature allows the operator to automatically lock into a set engine speed while on the road. The PRO Series is also equipped with the ECOROAD six-speed Autoshift transmission, which can reduce travel time and fuel consumption by as much as 25% for operators who spend a lot of time on the road. All powershift transmissions are now standard with JCB's TorqueLock system.
There are automatic interior lights that illuminate the step area when entering the cab and dim softly when turning off. Again, the operator can set the delay timer on the side monitor.
Automatic two-wheel drive reduces tire wear and fuel consumption by automatically switching from four-wheel drive to two-wheel drive when four-wheel drive traction is no longer needed. This is effective when shoveling in a heap, where 4WD is beneficial, and then switches to 2WD as the machine travels to the loading location. A host of new standard features have been integrated into the machines, including rear lamp guards, front bumpers, automatic bucket leveling, clamp bucket cylinder guards, high flow piping and the Auto SRS load compensation system on the load frame.
The Stage V 3CX, 4CX and 5CX PRO backhoe loaders are instantly recognizable, with a newly designed roof that integrates LED flashing lights in the corners of the roof, so the machine can be clearly seen from all angles. It is no longer necessary to install magnetic flashing lights on a daily basis.
Up to 10 LED work lights provide a larger lighting area that can be more easily operated by the operator. Screw-on yellow handles improve safety and there are larger exterior mirrors to improve rear visibility.
Inside the new JCB CommandPlus cab, the interior has a split color line, with dark gray material in the lower half and lighter colors in the upper half. This gives the cab a sense of lightness and airiness, making it feel more spacious. The revised driver's seat, which can be heated and air-suspended, has a darker material with improved grip and yellow stitching. A headrest is now standard on Advanced Easy Control (AEC) models and optional on manually operated machines.
The new steering wheel has an improved grain to reduce wear and a three-spoke design for better visibility on the redesigned windshield. This new easy-to-read monitor has a speedometer and shows the gear selected on Powershift models.
The cab also comes with a factory-installed Bluetooth radio, with USB and Aux compatibility, that can be controlled by the rotary switch on the side console, regardless of which direction the operator is facing. In addition, the heating and ventilation controls have been relocated to the B-pillar, again making them easier to reach regardless of seat position.
The side screen has been updated, with a new 7" LCD screen. This allows more information to be displayed and the various menus, including help files and "How To" videos on important functions, can be toggled with the rotary switch below. Next to the radio is an additional secure storage area, with a lockable compartment for smaller items.
