With some 8,000 m2 While the proportion of reinforced soil structures at the new bridge in Ouderkerk aan de Amstel may have been limited, the complexity was mainly in the tight spaces and many phases. Commissioned by Bouwcombinatie B.O.K (Combinatie Brug Oudekerk), Bonneveld Gewapende Grond Constructies B.V., together with Joosten Concepts, was responsible for the design, delivery and installation of all the reinforced soil uplift structures for the new roadway body to and from the bridge.
"Since the abutment is not calculated for ground pressure, it is relieved by means of a reinforced soil construction. By keeping the construction several centimeters away from the concrete, a so-called cavity is created. This cavity remains empty and the top is protected from washout of the material above it," says Hans van Beek of Bonneveld Reinforced Ground Constructions. "In combination with Joosten Concepts, we were asked to make a price for the complete design, delivery and installation. In this case, that led to the application of two systems: the TenCate Miragrid GX and the Tensar RE Geogrid."
"The TenCate Miragrid GX is implemented as a solution with lost formwork to maintain sufficient space between the concrete abutments and the soil body behind them," Van Beek explains. "The Tensar RE Geogrid was implemented as a green wall with planting and will have a green 'facing' in the future. Despite the limited quantities, it was still a bit of a fit and measure at times. But that's something we're entrusted with as a company. We are always inclined to think along in solutions to get things done together as a team."
