The rental and contracting company also made a substantial contribution to the VDR project, deploying up to 15 machines a day during peak periods. And mostly on weekends and nights as well.
"We rent earth-moving equipment in the broadest sense of the word: bulldozers, dumpers, rollers, excavators, tractors, water trucks, and so on. We were also involved in the VDR project with all that equipment. Including driver/driver, of course. We rent all our machines mainly with operation," says Jan Piet Vos of P. Vos. "It is mainly our people who make the difference. They are not afraid to work weekends and nights. On this project we worked a lot of double shifts, especially on weekends. Besides earth moving, we were also involved in setting the drainage ditches and the CTB, the Cement Treated Base, or driving in and wetting the pavement under the track."
The bond between Heijmans and P. Vos is therefore very good, especially at a location like Schiphol Airport, Vos knows. "Some of our employees have been 'walking around' there for 20 years. The nature of the work and deployment of equipment varies from project to project: sometimes it involves just a few loading shovels, in other cases up to 20 or 25 machines. In addition to the airport, we are also active on other infrastructure works, particularly in the Randstad region."
