Isolation for the Dutch Grand Prix Lounge at Zandvoort

Insulation for the Dutch Grand Prix Lounge at Zandvoort

Due to the pandemic, the Grand Prix of the Netherlands did not take place, but there will be a retake this year. Meanwhile, the track is ready for use and all work around the track has been completed. This includes the Dutch Grand Prix lounge, built on an artificial dune in the middle of the circuit.

Last year, people worked with all their might to get all the work for the Formula 1 Dutch Grand Prix done in time. Due to the pandemic, the Dutch Grand Prix did not take place, but this year there is a retake. Meanwhile, the track is ready for use and all work around the track has been completed. Also the Dutch Grand Prix lounge, built on an artificial dune in the middle of the circuit.

Beautiful and challenging circuit In March 2020, all areas of the track were still being worked on. After the more than one hundred modifications were made, sporting director Jan Lammers called the track "the most beautiful and challenging circuit in Europe, perhaps in the world. The most extensive renovations were carried out in Hugenholtzbocht and Arie Luyendijkbocht. For this, the circuit was rebuilt and the road re-laid. These are so-called bowl corners that also appear, for example, in Indycar races in Indianapolis and Daytona. No Formula 1 circuit has such a sloping uphill corner, let alone two. It offers additional overtaking opportunities and will make the Dutch Grand Prix at Zandvoort unique.

Well-known contractor

Along the track there has also been plenty of work, including on the Dutch Grand Prix Lounge, for which a beach pavilion was purchased. The pavilion has been carefully dismantled and rebuilt on an artificial dune near the Rob Slotemaker bend. Among other things, it offers views of the spectacular Scheivlak. The lounge was winterized by the company of Jeroen Swart, who is no stranger to the circuit, and has already completed several assignments. For example, the company has remodeled the office complex and renovated the timekeeping tower and transformer room. The company acts as the general contractor, performing the carpentry work and engaging local entrepreneurs for the remaining work.

The Pavilion

The appearance of the pavilion has not changed. It will remain standing for at least five years and will also be used for other events. The work of Jeroen Swart's construction company consists mainly of insulating the walls and roof. For this, PIR insulation was used, in combination with sheet materials for exterior. The walls are also being re-insulated. These consist mostly of glass, which have been replaced with double glazing. The biggest job is insulating the roof, which consists of no less than 1,150 m2. After dismantling the pavilion, the existing roofing material was neatly numbered and stored so that it could be efficiently reinstalled after the insulation work. Before installing the PIR insulation boards, vapor retardant foil was first applied. Then the boards were screwed to the joists with wood screws and pressure distribution plates.
