Smart security keeps the Arcen dike reinforcement construction sites safe

Flexible and Mobile Video Surveillance

The dike reinforcement project in Arcen involves the use of expensive equipment. To protect this equipment from theft and to keep unauthorized persons off the construction site, the Arcen Dike Zone Alliance is using temporary video surveillance provided by Kooi Camerabewaking. “Security not only prevents damage and delays, but also contributes to a safe environment,” says Bente Wijnia, project manager at Kooi Camerabewaking.

Several mobile camera systems have also been set up along the route of the dike reinforcement project in Arcen. The mobile alarm systems are equipped with their own power supply and can therefore be placed virtually anywhere. As soon as a camera detects an unauthorized person, Kooi Camerabewaking’s alarm center receives an immediate notification. At the same time, a siren sounds at the construction site in question. “That has a strong deterrent effect. In 99 percent of cases, that’s enough to make the intruder leave. If that doesn’t happen, our monitoring center calls in the police or a security company,” says Bente. Stijn Desserjer, chief contractor at Ploegam, confirms this on behalf of Dijkzone Alliantie Arcen: “You can tell that the visible presence of the cameras has a preventive effect. That alone deters many unwanted visitors. Local residents also report that the security measures make the area feel safer.”

No two construction projects are alike. That’s why Kooi Camerabewaking begins every project with a site visit. “Together with the client, we assess the project’s structure and identify any risks,” explains sales manager Laurian Huizing. Based on this assessment, a preliminary plan is drawn up for the deployment of the various camera systems. This plan remains flexible throughout the project. “Things always turn out differently in practice than planned. That’s why we often work on an on-call basis. If extra security is needed or the phasing of the work changes, we can install an additional camera unit as early as the next day.” As far as Stijn is concerned, Kooi has taken a lot of the burden off his shoulders: “Through the app, we always have insight into what’s happening at our site, and we’re only contacted when it’s truly necessary. That saves us a lot of time and gives us peace of mind, so we can focus on our own work.”
