What once began as a traditional trading company dealing primarily in (HD)PE pipes has grown into a versatile specialist in plastic piping systems and concrete protection. With years of experience supplying gas network operators and a strong focus on quality and long-term contracts, De Jongh Pipesystems has established itself as a reliable partner in the gas, water, and wastewater sectors. For the expansion of AWS Zwanenburg, the company supplied both the specific concrete protection and custom-made plastic piping systems.
“An important step in our evolution into a full-service supplier was the expansion into welding and the opening of a large workshop in 2018,” says Arie Fase, project manager at De Jongh Pipesystems. “Since then, we’ve not only been supplying materials, but also performing high-quality in-house welding and prefabrication work.” Today, that combination of supply and fabrication forms the core of their contribution to projects at wastewater treatment plants (WWTPs).
Concrete protection plays a crucial role in these projects. “By installing HDPE liners in facilities such as receiving basements and wastewater sumps, the concrete is protected against aggressive substances like H2S gas,” explains Fase. “Such protection is essential to ensure the service life of the installations.” Commissioned by VOBI Infra, De Jongh Pipesystems supplied a total of approximately 650 m² of concrete protection for the two new AWTG facilities in Heemstede and Haarlem-Schalkwijk. “We custom-cut the HDPE liner plates to exact specifications so that VOBI Infra could install them in the receiving vaults, keeping the number of on-site welds to a minimum. The liner plates are 4 mm thick and feature a T-grip for optimal anchoring in the concrete.”

The installation was carried out in phases, with VOBI Infra itself incorporating the liner plates into the formwork. “After removing the formwork, a smooth, flat interior finish was revealed. We finished and welded all seams, corners, and attachment points,” says Fase. “We then conducted a thorough leak test using spark testing, which allowed us to immediately detect and repair any leaks. The end result is a gas-tight protective lining with a guaranteed and certified service life of at least twenty years.” In addition to the concrete protection, De Jongh Pipesystem also supplied the prefabricated piping, consisting of HDPE pressure pipes and special elbows. “These, too, were prepared in advance in our workshop as much as possible to ensure maximum ease of installation on site.”
With this comprehensive approach—from design and prefabrication to installation and inspection—De Jongh Pipesystems has also made its mark at AWS Zwanenburg.
