Since 2024, De Waal Solid Foundations from Lokeren and Ostend is part of 2FUND, the foundation and shoring specialist that saw the light of day in June 2019 following a merger between Votquenne Foundations from Kortrijk/Trazegnies and Lameire Funderingstechnieken from Eeklo. With combined forces, 2FUND thus further specializes in new techniques and offers a ready-made solution for every foundation problem. Following on from what the individual firms did before the merger, at the site Casino Middelkerke, the three companies now repeated a new feat under one banner with LOOF, commissioned by AB-Eiffage.
Project LOOF concerns the construction of five stylish apartment buildings on the former hospital site of the AZ Groeninge in the Loofstraat in Kortrijk. The project contains 104 apartments spread over two clusters and designed by architect OFFICE Kersten Geers David Van Severen. For the drilling of more than 1,000 soil displacement screw piles, the expertise of Votquenne Foundations is currently being called upon, while Lameire Funderingstechnieken milled 543 linear meters of soilmix wall together with an additional crew from De Waal Solid Foundations.
At this yard, 2FUND has the unique opportunity to combine the strengths of the three firms, resulting in many advantages. For example, strict planning is guaranteed. Thanks to the collaboration, deadlines can be met without sacrificing efficiency and quality. By combining the various areas of expertise, top quality can be delivered, resulting in flawless results for the customer. "With this approach, 2FUND distinguishes itself within the market because teamwork leads to top performance. LOOF promises to become a vibrant place where living, working and leisure come together. And we are particularly proud to contribute our part to this," enthuses 2FUND.
The advance of 2FUND as an all-in-one specialist is the result of the three companies' driven ambition to become Belgian market leaders in total solutions for both foundation and shoring techniques. In addition to the combined strengths and knowledge of De Waal Solid Foundations, Votquenne Foundations and Lameire Funderingstechnieken, Exceptra, VQ Logistics, A.Vyncke, Revyson and Sondex were also included in the group. These companies have a supporting function. Where Exceptra and VQ Logistics take care of the logistics around the site and watch over the flexibility of the machines and teams, Revyson and Sondex take care of thorough soil research and quality control. A.Vyncke is committed to a thorough professionalization in dewatering according to the new standards.
and regulations.
Personal commitment and making everything negotiable and doable are at the heart of 2FUND's business. Time and again they try to meet their customer's needs and requirements without compromising on quality and safety. With that focus and a continuous drive to innovate, 2FUND continues to evolve into an all-round foundation company and an ideal partner for the execution of total projects. Thus, the first steps were also taken for the implementation of jetgrouting, a special technique to create foundation piles or a water-restraining pile wall as construction pit shoring using cement injection under high pressure or as stabilization of existing unstable foundations.
Lameire was founded in 1969 as an agricultural contracting company but has evolved over the years into a specialist in the field of deep foundations and shoring techniques for clients of civil engineering projects as well as private individuals and industry. Constant investments in new technologies ensure that customers are always helped in the most cost-efficient way. Thus, Lameire Funderingstechnieken can be counted among the pioneers of the Soilmix implementation. In the early years, the company was mainly known for the execution of pit foundations, but now you can also turn to them for pile walls, piles, berliner walls, micro-piles and tubular excavations.
For its part, Votquenne Foundations is a relatively young company that was founded in 2006 by ir. Bart Cloet to be able to offer, in addition to the manual techniques already available (galleries, shored trenches, under-shoring ...), the machine techniques (soil displacement screw piles, micropiles, berliner wall, secant pile wall, gravel cores, jet grouting ...). Votquenne Foundations is based in Kortrijk, with its registered office located in Trazegnies. In recent years Votquenne Foundations has significantly expanded its range of activities through the acquisition of A.Vyncke (drainage) and the creation of sister companies Revyson (soil testing and quality control) and VQ Logistics (site-related transport). This enables the group to offer a quality total solution tailored to the customer's needs. It also specializes in far-reaching studies that result in an optimal solution for the customer both financially and in terms of quality.
De Waal Palen has been present on the Belgian market since 1959. It began as a division of the Dutch parent company De Waalpaal BV and was mainly active in the piling of prefabricated piles. In 1987, the Belgian division was taken over by then managing director Frank Poorteman. At that time the company developed a new system, namely the double soil displacement screw piles: the gvs-pile. Using machines specially developed for the system and the use of concrete pumps, it was possible to execute piles at an unprecedented speed, with a guarantee of quality.
In 1997, the market share was increased by the acquisition of Wig Palen which was then located in Middelkerke and had a very big name on the coast. Another four years later, the company De Waal Secans was founded which specialized in the execution of berliner walls and secant pile walls. In 2006, Groep De Waal was taken over by Groep Willemen and a year later the branch in Poland (De Waal Polska) opened where double soil displacement screw piles were also carried out.
The acquisition of the company Olivier Funderings-technieken from Rumbeke in 2011 added additional techniques (false wells, soilmix and anchors) so that clients could find a total solution for the shoring of construction pits and the foundation of buildings. And that total service received an additional boost when in 2017 the firms De Waal Palen, Wedge Palen and Olivier Funderingstechnieken merged to form De Waal Solid Foundations.
