Independence highly valued

The Roof of Drenthe project involves Normec QS as a fully independent and accredited TICC institution. They carry out the inspections during the construction of the top sealing construction to determine whether the requirements of the prepared specifications are met. We speak to general manager Iljo Fluit.

After nearly twenty years, QS (Quality Services) joined the Normec Group two years ago and continued as Normec QS. As part of the Normec Group, a leader in testing, inspection, certification and compliance, the scope has expanded significantly in recent years. Iljo: "We share the same core values where customer approach is concerned. The TICC services of Normec QS are both complementary and related to the various activities of the Normec Group." 

The Roof of Drenthe is a beautiful and large project for Normec QS and client Attero. Attero's primary goal was to demonstrate that the sealing structure meets all the specified requirements and has a minimum expected life span by deploying Normec QS.

Quality demonstrably assured 

Upon completion of the Roof of Drenthe, the project will be transferred to the province. Normec QS, as an independent, accredited TICC institution, certifies that all legal requirements for the sealing of landfills have been met in the process. This is recorded in an assessment report and a corresponding declaration of conformity. Iljo: "We act on site during construction as an accredited inspection body to check the functionality and leak-tightness of the top seal. In addition, the required destructive tests on representative samples of the various plastic welded joints applied are carried out in our accredited laboratory. In addition, with our accredited long-term behavior expert, we make a statement about the expected service life of the applied film construction. Thus we offer a total package and the required quality is demonstrably guaranteed for Attero." 

Iljo explains that Normec QS employs a long-term behavioral expert who can and does make a statement about the expected life of the sealant construction. The service life of the plastics used depends on various environmental factors. Consider chemical, physical and mechanical degradation processes. In this case, Normec QS's laboratory carries out long-term tests from which a statement is made about a life expectancy for a period of at least 100 years. 

The total Normec QS team currently consists of over forty employees working in a niche market throughout the country and beyond. Iljo: "Because of the relatively short construction time, we were able to rely on our team of qualified inspectors, lab technicians, product experts and office support at the Drenthe Roof. I am sincerely proud of the commitment of our colleagues. In doing so, this also demonstrates our flexibility: a characteristic of our company that is almost as important as our independence." 

Finally, Iljo praises the professionalism of client Attero. "Executing a project in such a short time requires a tight project organization on the one hand and maneuverability to respond to unpredictable weather conditions, for example. Attero selected experienced parties at the front end who had the importance of successfully completing the project within a short period of time with the desired quality well in mind from the start. We were happy to play our part in this from our role."

That this commitment is highly appreciated is also evident from a statement made by Hans Boer of Attero: "We choose Normec QS for an independent assessment of the quality of the work. This is very important to Attero for the acceptance of the seal's 100-year lifespan. In addition, Normec QS is practical and flexible to ensure the progress of the work."
