What does the job of a Civil Engineering teacher look like?

The Haage University of Applied Sciences is looking for a civil engineering teacher with practical knowledge and experience. A teacher who wants to transfer his knowledge of civil engineering in an enthusiastic way. In addition, the lecturer contributes to the innovation of education and is willing to take on organizational tasks.

Your position

In college teaching, you work with students from age 17 to about 23. The students go through a strong development during the time they study with us. From pupil to "young professional. As a teacher, it is your job to guide and motivate the student in this process. You shape the content of a course, the didactics and take care of the coordination of education. In the implementation of education, you motivate students with activating teaching and know how to challenge them with actual cases. You visit trainees, organize excursions and supervise students during their graduation. The program Civil Engineering is part of the cluster Built Environment. A teacher within the cluster Built Environment works in result responsible teams, so you will always work with colleagues in developing and implementing education.

The Built Environment (BE) department is a collaboration between the civil engineering, architecture and spatial development programs. Within this cluster, we do together what we can do together, both in the organization and in education. The BE teaching team consists of about fifty passionate teachers who all work with their own knowledge and experience to realize impactful and integral education, with attention to the unique profile of the individual programs.

In addition, we believe the following are also important to being a successful Civil Engineering Teacher:

  • A completed master's degree in civil engineering;
  • Bring recent and relevant experience in professional practice;
  • Affinity or experience with educational implementation;
  • Possess or be willing to obtain a basic teaching qualification.

Competencies relevant to filling the position:

  • You have good intercultural skills. You can easily interact with a diversity of people and roles.

What can you expect from us?

We very much want you to be successful as a Civil Engineering Teacher and have a great time at The Hague. That's why we offer you:

  • An appointment of 0.6 - 1.0 FTE, 24 - 40 hours per week, for one year with the prospect of permanent employment;
  • A salary between € 3,881.09 - € 5,332.48 (scale 11) for a full working week, excluding 8% vacation allowance. Our terms of employment are in accordance with the cao-hbo;
  • A guaranteed year-end bonus of 8.3%;
  • A flexible home working arrangement (50% at home and 50% in the office);
  • A green travel expense scheme: if you choose public transportation, you will be reimbursed an NS business card 2nd class in your name for 100% from The Hague University of Applied Sciences;
  • Over 53 days off for full-time employment, including mandatory days off and national holidays.
