Repairing concrete structures: a trade in itself

Repairing concrete works of art: a profession in its own right

When it comes to concrete renovation, the installation of Mageba joint crossings and the execution of various rail infrastructure works, Technobeton has developed into a prominent player in the market since its founding in 1993. Indeed, as a member of the Vereniging van Gecertificeerde BetonReparatiebedrijven (VBR), the company has been in the premier league of concrete repair companies in the Netherlands for a number of years. "We have all the certifications to perform both aesthetic, technical and structural concrete repairs," explains director Paul Lange. "Especially thanks to the latter discipline, we are part of a select group of specialists."

Operating from its headquarters in Wessem, Limburg, and a branch in Rotterdam, Technobeton has grown in just under 30 years into a versatile GWW company. The (constructive) repair and maintenance of concrete structures is one of the branches of sport that is practiced there, usually commissioned by (higher) authorities. All this is done with a high degree of craftsmanship and precision, a keen eye for detail and always in accordance with the applicable guidelines. "When penetration of moisture and/or de-icing salts, for example, causes concrete erosion, a structure can become unstable," Lange teaches. "A situation that, however, does not have to mean the end of the building or structure. That's what Technobeton takes care of. First of all, we make a clear damage, repair and cost analysis. That prevents unpleasant surprises along the way or afterwards. Then we work towards a sustainable and future-oriented solution that excels in terms of functionality and suitability. Regardless of whether it is a bridge, viaduct or sewer. Technobeton is certified at the highest level in terms of concrete repair. We can therefore handle any damage and provide appropriate renovation or preservation in every situation. For example via injection, the application of sprayed concrete, whether or not in combination with steel fibers, or manual repair. This is done by our experienced professionals, all of whom are trained to at least level 2 or 3 and have all the expertise needed to give concrete structures a second life. Of course, all this is done using first-class materials and state-of-the-art equipment. We always aim for the best end result."

Reference

Over the years Technobeton has successfully taken on many concrete structures. This includes the necessary engineering works, such as bridges and viaducts. One of the projects the company carried out on behalf of the Department of Public Works starting in 2017 involved the renovation of a total of 32 bridges over the Twente Canal. "Prior to the project, the maintenance needs of the bridges were insufficiently clear," Lange recalls. "Technobeton first carefully inspected the bridges and recorded the situation for each bridge. For each series of bridges, the customer was advised by means of an explanatory presentation. In each case, we weighed up the risks and indicated the technical solutions in line with the requirements, standards and applicable laws and regulations. The financial impact was also mapped out. Optimal transparency, in other words. The client then made the choices, after which we ensured excellent execution."
