For many years Gako Groenvoorziening has provided the green maintenance of over 230 kilometers of provincial roads in the province of South Holland, including the existing N206 ir. G. Tjalmaweg in Katwijk. Reason for Boskalis to involve the green space contractor in the reconstruction of the provincial road as well.
The N206 ir. G. Tjalmaweg is located in a green environment. This green appearance will be preserved even after the modifications and will even be further enhanced. "At an early stage we were asked by Boskalis to help think about the possibilities in terms of filling in the green plans," says Cor de Gans of Gako Groenvoorziening. New trees, shrubs, hedges and grass vegetation will be planted. Species that are attractive to birds and insects will be taken into account as much as possible. The walls of the sunken location and the noise barriers will be planted with a mix of climbing plants.

To make the expansion of the provincial road possible, Gako Groenvoorziening has already cleared the necessary trees in the preliminary phase. "We are right at home in the Katwijk area and are responsible for mowing the verges, clearing waterways, felling trees and carrying out the necessary pavement maintenance. How nice it is then, that as a company you are also involved in the reconstruction of the N206 ir. G. Tjalmaweg," says De Gans proudly. "We were really able to assert our expertise here. At some points, adjustments were even made to the green plan." In addition to clearing trees, Gako Groenvoorziening has now planted quite a few trees with a large plant size, sowed several roadsides, created dog walking areas and installed no less than 5 kilometers of toad fencing.
De Gans: "The relationship with Boskalis was already good - we are not strangers to each other and have also worked together in previous projects - but is getting better and better. We know what we have in common, there is mutual respect and trust. That just works very well. So we have a lot of consultation among ourselves to keep our schedules in line with each other as much as possible." The green contractor is also thinking along with the planting of the climbing plants at the noise barriers and the walls of the sunken section. "We hope, of course, that we will be allowed to take on the entire landscaping in the sunken location and that we will be allowed to run with the 10-year maintenance contract."
