A long-term infrastructure project requires high-quality on-site housing for project management, management and related office functions. K&A, turkney supplier of sustainable bulkhead chain, has been providing housing for numerous clients active in infra since 1995.
On an appealing project, a bulkhead shed belongs, thinks Pieter Kroon of K&A. "The eye also wants something. At our modern factory in Groot-Ammers, we already paint all buildings in our clients' house color. In this way, they can already be seen at work from a great distance. This makes our buildings a nice calling card for our clients. In many cases, a bulkhead shack also proves to be a more economical alternative to standardized units, especially for long-term infrastructure projects. Moreover, modular housing can be reused many times."

A bulkhead shack consists of a foundation of industrial plates on which the HSB elements are modularly constructed, Kroon explains. "The interior walls can be placed project-dependently. So we are not dependent on a module size, as with a unit. That means we can make any layout we want with free spans of sometimes more than 12 meters. The walls, floors and roof are made of wood. This ensures pleasant comfort and a cozy atmosphere. Wood is also extremely durable and perfectly recyclable. Anyway, bulkhead chains can be reused many times."
K&A provides turn-key delivery of the entire project. "Thus, in addition to production, our services include assembly, installation, upholstery, any furnishings and the installation of security and ICT. After completion, we take care of dismantling the project again. Often our buildings travel with our clients from project to project."
K&A also provides interim storage and, if required, repurchase of the building at the end of the project. At its factory, all elements are reconditioned and refurbished. After the exterior paintwork is sanded and repainted, the used bulkhead shack can be used "like new" again. Says Kroon, "We have been doing this for many years, which means that the reuse of materials and sustainable business practices are completely embedded in our DNA."
The use of bulkhead chain brings another major advantage. Due to the compact transportation of the modular
elements, transporting bulkhead chain requires more than four times fewer transport movements than a building composed of units. The use of bulkhead chain on projects therefore contributes to reducing CO2 and nitrogen emissions.
