Engcon switches to internally developed, safe quick couplings

Engcon, world-leading manufacturer of turntable attachments, has stopped producing the older, traditional attachments for S-type attachments in sizes S45-S80. This type of attachment was introduced to the market back in the 1980s. These have now been replaced by the internally developed, state-of-the-art quick coupler Q-Safe (QS), which is one of the absolute safest quick couplers on the market. This quick coupler also has automatic connection for electricity, central lubrication and oil supply. For Engcon, this change is a link in the continuous pursuit of safer and more efficient excavators.

"We regularly receive tragic reports of people being injured on the job due to unsafe attachment of equipment or improper handling of equipment. With the Q-safe, there is no such thing. This is why we decide to switch completely to our own safe quick coupler and associated locking system," says Stig Engström, founder of Engcon.

The Engcon locking system and the Q-Safe quick coupler eliminate the human factor in terms of improper coupling and uncoupling of attachments. With Engcon's locking technology, it is impossible to incorrectly attach or detach a bucket, for example. This prevents a piece of equipment from coming off completely or swinging back and forth on an axle in a life-threatening manner. It is also impossible to lose the bucket due to involuntary or improper activation of the equipment's locking mechanism, because in the Q-Safe system it must rest on the ground before being disconnected.

"This is an important step in our commitment to safety and zero tolerance against buckets swinging back and forth or falling. Q-Safe is one of the safest quick couplings in the world, so it is time to replace the old type S fasteners," said Stig Engström.

Stig Engström indicates that Engcon's quick coupler and locking system take over the operator's responsibility because the excavator cannot be used until a bucket or piece of equipment is properly coupled.

'I can well understand that due to busy working conditions, machinists quickly hitch up a piece of equipment to move it a bit. Sometimes even over the heads of nearby personnel. Unfortunately, incidents and accidents regularly occur where such a poorly hitched piece of equipment falls down. This prevents our quick coupler," says Stig Engström.

Compatible with EC-Oil and older attachments

The Q-Safe quick coupler comes for attachment to the machine and under Engcon's pivot attachments, and in addition to the safety features, the quick coupler also has automatic EC Oil coupling for oil, electrics and central lubrication, so the operator does not have to get out of the cab to attach hydraulic attachments.

"Automatic quick couplings are now our standard, and combined with their safety features, I dare say we offer the safest and most well thought-out quick coupling system available on the market," says Stig Engström.

This decision by Engcon stands for more safety and comfort. No modifications are necessary because Q-Safe is suitable for all attachments with S-connection S45-S80. Soon the S40 will also be replaced by the QS40.
