Delft South station to be called 'Delft Campus'

Delft South train station will get a new name at the end of this year: Delft Campus. The name change is part of a major renovation of Delft's second train station and fits with developments in the station area, the Campus of Delft University of Technology and the adjacent Schieoevers.

ProRail will build the Netherlands' first energy-neutral train station in Delft. Among other things, elevators, LED lighting and ticket machines at Delft Zuid station will run entirely on energy from an innovative roof, which will consist entirely of solar panels. To take this giant step in sustainability, we are working closely with the municipality of Delft and the Ministry of Infrastructure and Water Management.

Accessibility
Travelers who frequent this station will be especially pleased with the bicycle and pedestrian tunnel that will be built under the station. In combination with the four elevators we are going to build, this means that people with disabilities or parents with strollers will be able to use the station much more easily. Now they still have to deal with very high stairs to get from one side to the other of the tracks.

High-frequency rail transport
The improvement of Delft South station coincides with the approach to the Hague-Rotterdam line. This is one of the busiest train routes in the Netherlands. Already more than twenty trains an hour travel here. And that will soon be as many as 28. For this we are expanding the number of tracks from two to four. For Delft South, this does not just mean a futuristic roof. We will completely replace the platforms and construct a bicycle and pedestrian tunnel. Start of construction is fall 2019. The station must be finished in 2023. Additional trains will start running a year after that. Read more about the expansion of the number of trains between The Hague and Rotterdam.

Collaboration
The first signatures for the renewal were signed Friday, Jan. 11, 2019 by, State Secretary for Infrastructure and Water Management Stientje van Veldhoven, Chief Operational Officer John Voppen of ProRail and sustainability alderman Stephan Brandligt of the municipality of Delft.
