The Waterboard Amstel, Gooi and Vecht (AGV) and the municipality of Amsterdam use the services of Waternet. The work performed by Waternet is very diverse and ranges from cleaning sewage water and ensuring strong dikes to ensuring the correct water levels in the polders and in nature. An extensive range of tasks for which a few extra hands are not only desirable, but really necessary.
To meet the demands of Waterschap AGV and the municipality of Amsterdam, Waternet uses the expertise of Prommenz from Schagen. For more than 8 years there has been a cooperation, which gets closer every year. We sit down with Eelco Wiebenga, Project Leader Waterinfra Team Technical Systems at Waternet and Matthijs Vergaij, consultant and inspector at Prommenz. The gentlemen talk about the collaboration.
"Prommenz started for Waternet on a secondment basis and later on a project basis, for management, specification writing, supervision and plan writing. It is difficult to get good staff and by working with Prommenz, we catch peaks in our work in a professional way," begins Eelco.
Matthijs adds: "We have a team of six people who can be deployed as needed for Waternet when needed." What does their work consist of? Matthijs replies, "Among other things, we carry out NEN2767 inspections of hydraulic engineering structures, take care of the entire technical work preparation, supervision of execution for maintenance and repair and minor surveying work, draw up management plans and Program of Requirements for hydraulic engineering structures and advise on environmental matters. Giving instructions to contractors, for maintenance and repair, is also part of the work field." Eelco shows on a map the extent of the work area: "From Hilversum to Utrecht, Mijdrecht, Uithoorn, Blaricum and Huizen. That whole area is taken care of by Waternet and that's where you'll find the people of Prommenz at work."
Preparatory work Uitermeersluis and bridge, for inspection and testing emergency barrier Uitermeersluis.
"In case of emergencies, I first inform Foppe (Prommenz management, ed.) so he can reserve capacity that we can use immediately. This is quickly followed by consultation with Matthijs, we discuss what needs to be done and Prommenz immediately provides a clear plan of action. If that plan is approved, then we get to work," Eelco continues. "Then I'm talking about incidents or other situations that require quick action and for which we don't have the capacity ourselves."
In recent years, Waternet, together with Prommenz, has been making plans of approach for the multi-year maintenance of pumping stations. Matthijs: "We record the entire process. What technical solutions are necessary, what condition are the pumping stations in, we perform NEN2767 inspections, we draw up a priority list and write the necessary specifications. Then we communicate everything to the management of Waternet. Finally, we then take care of the completion documents and check the contractor at the final delivery." To conclude, Eelco adds, "Prommenz's flexibility, their fresh perspective and expertise ensure that Waternet can fulfill its tasks well."
