Together towards a secure future

BUKO Infrasupport's slogan proves once again very applicable to project Dike Reinforcement Markermeerdijken. While the alliance is working on strong Markermeer dikes for a safe future for the 1.2 million inhabitants of North Holland who are protected by the dikes, BUKO Infrasupport ensures that the required work can be carried out safely. For the workmen, the road users and the people living in the neighborhood.

Traffic measures in the broadest sense of the word

Barend Budding, traffic measures consultant at BUKO Infrasupport, explains that they are doing an awful lot of relatively "small" works within this large-scale project. "At several locations along the 33-plus kilometer stretch between Hoorn and Amsterdam, we take care of all traffic measures on behalf of the alliance, in the broadest sense of the word. From traffic controllers to providing closures, from the introduction of temporary dike entrances to placing beacons, fencing and signs. Very diverse, in various places and with various materials so."

Multidisciplinary

"Just about every discipline at BUKO Infrasupport comes along," Budding continues. "That starts at the drawing board where we make the traffic plans with the alliance. Complete with digital substrates of the dike approaches, temporary bridges and closures that will be needed during the project. This involves quite a bit of engineering and advice from BUKO Infrasupport. Moreover, not everything is a temporary traffic measure because some modifications are sometimes there for more than a year. The alliance has its own board that takes care of everything in terms of traffic orders, but these are also matters where we can normally relieve the customer."

Excellent cooperation

By sitting down together in a timely manner, you can identify any challenges early on and provide solutions to them. "We notice that the alliance is serious about safety. Both of its own people who are at work and the residents in the area. This also applies to the environmental managers of the alliance Markermeer Dikes. For example, they point out situations they encounter, such as when they notice that people are still driving too fast somewhere, so that we can build a road narrowing with a concrete barrier to reduce the speed at that spot. That is very pleasant cooperation because you all feel very strongly about safety and want to achieve a good end result."

BUKO Infrasupport advises, takes care and always thinks in terms of solutions. In this project, for example, a huge number of traffic mirrors were installed for freight traffic coming off the dikes, for the safety of the many cyclists there. Budding concludes, "Whether it's standard closures and actions we have to do, or just project-specific solutions: we either do it right or we don't."
