Strong on the water, ready for tomorrow

KW Trans is the specialist in maritime logistics and environmental incident response. “In a sector where every minute counts and reliable partners make the difference, we have developed as a company into a full-service specialist on the water,” says managing director Jacco Wakker who, together with more than 45 experienced employees and an extensive fleet of our own equipment, is on standby 24/7 to carry out projects safely and efficiently. From oil calamities to large-scale logistical water transports.

In recent years, we have further expanded our services to include oil and emergency response, Wakker says. “Small oil incidents we handle independently, larger situations we tackle in close cooperation with our partners. It is a valuable extra service for many of our clients. Think of situations in which a hydraulic hose snaps during unloading and oil flows into the water. The party causing the problem is responsible for cleaning it up, and those who fail to do so face substantial costs. By acting quickly, we prevent it from coming to that.”

Using two radio-controlled robots, KW Trans pulls oil screens through the water without the need for large ships. “We are always quickly on site, and if required we also remove floating debris by pulling a net along behind our robots. Thus, we ensure a complete and efficient cleanup operation.”

Logistics relief

Apart from calamity response, KW Trans takes care of all maritime logistics for clients. “We arrange the deployment of boats, barges and equipment, and ensure that everything is at the right place exactly on time,” assures Wakker. “We think in solutions, optimize logistics chains and take responsibility for the overall picture. For example, over the past two years we were intensively involved in the reinforcement of the Afsluitdijk. Here we handled the transshipment of bulk stone. Large ocean-going vessels arrived at fixed times, and we made sure that everything was unloaded, transferred to barges and transported further to the work site. Pusher craft, work boats, crane barges, pontoons and split barges, we arranged the entire equipment and crew.” That total care is appreciated. One client put it aptly: “With KW Trans you get what you ask for. He thinks along, switches quickly and offers solutions where others get stuck. Arranging the logistics sounds simple, but in the background it is an enormous puzzle. In the end, it always works out.”

KW Trans also supports dredging projects. “We tow, push and pull equipment and can organize complete work packages, using our own or third-party equipment,” Wakker explains. “Clients choose us because we give honest advice and take responsibility. Sometimes we may not seem like the cheapest option up front, but thanks to our efficient logistics and smart planning, costs are more than recouped at the end of the project. With our people, our equipment and our mentality, we are, as we say ourselves, strong on the water and ready for tomorrow.”
