After being active for over five years for contractor consortium OpenIJ during the construction of Zeesluis IJmuiden on behalf of Rijkswaterstaat, NL Steigers is now also building for Van Hattum en Blankevoort all scaffolding and support structures for the Selective Withdrawal at the world's largest sea lock.
NL Steigers was founded in 2016 and specializes mainly in specific scaffolding construction. "Think support structures or scaffolding at bridges, tunnels and lock gates," clarifies Serdar Ort, director of NL Steigers. "In this capacity, we are active throughout the country and in recent years have been able to contribute to wonderful projects, such as the renovation of the Afsluitdijk and the renewal of the Botlek Bridge. The construction of the sea lock in IJmuiden was another wonderful project for us, where we were active daily with an average of 30 to 40 scaffold builders."
So NL Steigers is a familiar face on and around the lock complex. Reason enough for Van Hattum and Blankevoort to also call on the scaffolder for the Selective Withdrawal. "The Selective Withdrawal involves an average of 6 to 8 people from us," continues Serdar. "They are relatively simple scaffolding and support structures that we are building for this project, especially considering that we are used to working with suspended scaffolding. Here we just work from the bottom up, also largely on a pre-construction site. Only the structures around the abutments we are building on the job."
NL Scaffolding works predominantly with third-party scaffolding equipment for Selective Extraction, but occasionally calls on its own ample inventory. "Of course, we are fully certified as an organization (VCA, Safety Culture Ladder, ISO 9001, ISO 14001) and operate throughout the country. We are praised for our flexibility, as we can move very quickly. Even urgent jobs, for example after a calamity where scaffolding is needed quickly in challenging places, we always manage to bring them to a successful conclusion. That is appreciated." At Selective Withdrawal, NL Scaffolding will be active until next summer. "We have just taken on a new phase to build scaffolding, stairwells and a working platform at the moving parts."
