Nature reserve De Scheeken is located in the triangle Best, Boxtel, Sint Oedenrode. In De Scheeken, the poplar landscape of the Meierij is at its most beautiful. In 2011, a natural bridge over the A2 motorway connected De Scheeken and De Mortelen. Together, these areas form the heart of Het Groene Woud. The municipality of Best has shown the initiative to develop a Nature Gate with recreational connection to the Groene Woud. Staro Natuur en Buitengebied, together with the Bosgroep Zuid Nederland, has developed the furnishing plan elaborated and a tender-worthy contract prepared.

Approach
On the basis of the land acquired, Staro Nature and Rural Area has the furnishing plan further developed. Eventually, in consultation with the client, these plans were frequently supplemented by the additional acquisition of land. This created opportunities so that eventually a 2 km long wheelchair path, a poplar meadow, a play island and a bat cellar were realized. A special feature of this project is the use of Terrastab, a form of soil stabilization that creates a natural semi-paved surface. In the contract formation, extra attention was paid to the protection of the soil during the implementation. The soil in De Scheeken contains shallow layers of loam which can make conditions very wet.

Result
Finally, a contract and construction drawings were produced with which a contractor was selected. The implementation drawings are provided with profiles and details. Van Stipdonk Landscaping began implementation in late 2018.
