For the Monnickendam pumping station to function optimally later on, HC Waterbeheersing BV is developing and producing a number of spindle valves and check valves. One by one custom-made products, interpreted to the most extreme situations and also in a substantial size. An interview with former co-owner Cock Lobach, who is still active within the company in field sales.
We have long been engaged in the production and development of water control products ranging from valves and check valves to float units and tilt weirs, Lobach begins. "We do that from two locations for projects at home and abroad. In Kesteren we make the products in stainless steel, in Eck and Wiel we specialize in processing HDPE. For Monnickendam pumping station, we were asked to make three check valves in HDPE, as well as a number of spindle valves in stainless steel 316. The products are calculated for the most extreme situation with a level difference of 8.3 MWK (meters water column)."
The check valves seal a 2.5 x 2.5 meter recess and are constructed with a top and bottom valve. "Only when an extremely large amount of water needs to be drained, both valves open. The valves are mounted against a stainless steel frame that is placed in guides so that the entire frame can be taken out in case of inspections or emergencies. Major advantage of a check valve in lightweight HDPE is that with minimal pressure, the valves already release and the material is maintenance-free. It is not a food source for critters or mussel fouling. The spindle valves are also similar in size, are constructed in stainless steel 316 with an HDPE guide and EPDM sealing rubber. The spindle valves are double retaining and can withstand pressure from both the polder and the Markermeer."
HC Water Control will start production during 2022, with assembly scheduled for around the end of 2022. The valves will be automatically operated by Auma motors.
