Settlement north/south metro project Cologne (2009)

The City of Cologne, the Cologne Public Transport Company (KVB) and the construction consortium ("Arge") that built part of the Cologne North/South metro line have reached an agreement to settle all outstanding claims related to this project, including damages resulting from the collapse of the Cologne City Archives on March 3, 2009.

BAM's operating company Wayss & Freytag Ingenieurbau is one-third partner in the construction consortium carrying out this project.

Under the agreement, each partner in the construction consortium will pay €200 million to the city of Cologne and KVB, after which the parties will waive further claims against each other. A significant part of Wayss & Freytag Ingenieurbau's contribution will be covered by insurance payments. For the remainder, Royal BAM Group nv will take an extraordinary charge in the 2020 financial statements in the amount of approximately €40 million.

BAM has repeatedly expressed its deep regret that two people died as a result of this accident. The Executive Board considers the current agreement to conclude this long-running and extremely complicated matter in the interest of all stakeholders, including BAM's shareholders.
