(R)evolution in the field of drainage

In the past, stormwater often went directly to the sewer system. Today, flushing rainwater away through sewer systems is "not done" and climate-adaptive requirements are being placed on water management solutions. Keeping rainwater available for beneficial uses is often one such requirement. A watertight drainage system is part of this. Now you might think that such requirements only come into play in inner-city areas. But nothing could be further from the truth. Increasingly, solutions are also requested for intensively and heavily trafficked areas. This is why the PowerDrain with Sealin technology has been developed.

PowerDrain for intensively heavy traffic areas

The brand new PowerDrain line gutter features a 12mm cast iron edge protection and a reinforced polymer concrete gutter element. This makes this line gutter ideal for intensive and heavy-duty applications. Examples include bus stations, shopping streets, industrial estates, parking garages and airports.

Permanently waterproof

The PowerDrain line channel is equipped as standard with a Sealin seal and more than meets the watertightness requirements of EN1433 and BRL5211 (KOMO). The EPDM Sealin seal is protected in the gutter profile and can therefore not be damaged by mechanical cleaning of the gutters or climatic influences. This guarantees long-term watertightness. Since water can no longer seep through between the channel elements, damage to constructions, weakening of concrete foundations and contamination of ground water is prevented.

Because the EPDM rubber is not suitable for endurance loads and light mineral liquids - such as oil and gasoline - and the rubber cannot be replaced, it makes Sealin gutters less suitable for applications in liquid-tight floors. Therefore, for liquid-tight floors, the PowerDrain with SF safety joint is available.

Processing Ease

Function alone is not enough. This is why the PowerDrain has been further developed in terms of ease of processing. Because thanks to the integrated EPDM seal, sealing of the butt joints/elements is no longer necessary. This saves time and money during the construction phase of projects. This gives you the best of both worlds: water is collected and drained quickly and safely, with maximum protection for the subsoil and groundwater, and it saves money during the installation phase.

The PowerDrain Sealin is also available in Type-I. This eliminates the need for concrete sheathing on sufficiently strong substrates, so that processing this line channel saves a great deal of time and thus money. In various practical situations, the PowerDrain-I Sealin has already proven to be an economical solution. For example, read also the reference case in which a contractor did the math and is happy with his final choice.

Maximum security and vandal resistant

A completely new locking mechanism was developed for the PowerDrain Sealin that guarantees safety with an audible click - the Powerlock. When the grating is removed, the locking lugs protrude from the sides of the grating. When the grating is placed in the gutter, pressing firmly with the foot is sufficient. This causes the locking lugs to slide back over the edge of the frame and then snap securely into the cast iron rim. The grate is now traffic-safe locked and cannot be unlocked without tools. Maximum safety and vandal-proof!

Because the new Powerlock gratings have integrated elastomeric dampers, this, in combination with the new grating lock, ensures that you drive silently over the line chute. So never again rattling loose gratings. This makes the PowerDrain Sealin very suitable for inner-city applications.

Widely applicable with an eye for design

With the Drainlock® and Powerlock gratings, there is a very wide choice of gratings in many shapes, colors and materials. The gratings for this line channel meet all requirements, both aesthetically and functionally. So there is a suitable grating design for every desired look, even custom-made solutions are possible.

For applications at ramps, driveways and entrances to parking garages and industrial halls, it is particularly important that water flows into the gutter from the side and cannot shoot over the grating. The longitudinal bar design of the grating effectively prevents this. This keeps industrial buildings and garages dry even during heavy rain. On slopes, depending on the angle of inclination, the higher flow velocity of the water is added to this. However, this is not a problem for the new Powerlock grating.

Improve stormwater runoff quality

In the past, stormwater often went directly to the sewer system. With climate adaptation in mind, collect, clean, hold and release have become important elements in the drainage chain. Because nowadays we want to prevent flooding and relieve the sewerage system. The prerequisite for this is better quality of the rainwater runoff. Just collecting the water with this new PowerDrain Sealin line channel is not enough. That is why ACO also has other complementary solutions to improve the quality of rainwater runoff. They are happy to advise you so that better thought-out and practicable solutions can be found that can be processed faster. "AskACO" is what they call it. Of course, designers, contractors and clients are free to use this way of working. So do you have a question about monitoring, collecting, cleaning, retaining and disposing of water? #askACO.

Meanwhile, the first reference projects have been realized with this PowerDrain Sealin. On the roof of the basement car park, there was no possibility of draining rainwater via the ground. Since the installation space for a drainage system was also limited by the low installation height of up to 50 cm, ACO found the solution here with the PowerDrain-I Sealin. "Thanks to the low installation height, no installation in concrete sheathing was necessary and with this line channel from ACO it was a fairly simple way of installation," says Alexander Ruijters, senior work planner at Infrascoop.

Shopping center prevents flooding with subtle and tight line drainage

"Still, this line channel was not the most obvious choice," says Hennie Heesterbeek, business manager at Daams Valkenswaard. "This was because of the high price. But when we looked into it further, it turned out that there were enormous installation advantages, which made the ACO PowerDrain-I Sealin advantageous after all. The low earth movement and not having to apply a mortar product to set the channel has saved us a lot of time and therefore money."
