Renovation of pipes with plastic products

When it comes to repairing steel or concrete pipes, water tanks or concrete basins, polyethylene plastic products play an important role. In many renovation projects, engineering plastics offer the best solution. Thanks to the easy processing, the fine chemical resistance and the attractive prices.

Leaking steel or concrete pipes can be renovated in several ways. Relining with plastic pipes or concrete protection plates prevents corrosion of sewers and concrete pipes. This technique preserves the old pipe as a protection and also makes it chemically resistant to aggressive liquids or gases. It is important to distinguish whether the renovation can be done with or without spacing.

In renovations with spacing, the diameter of the pipe decreases. The reduced transport capacity is partially compensated by the smooth surface of the new HDPE AGRULINE pipes.

Renovate without a gap
Renovation without a gap has the advantage that the old inner diameter remains virtually unchanged and thus the flow rate and conveying capacity are also maintained. AGRU Kunststofftechnik has been offering useful solutions for this for decades. A folded and thus compact HDPE pipe, the so-called AGRU SureFIT pipe, is drawn into the old pipe. After the AGRU SureFIT pipe is inserted into the existing old pipe, both pipe ends are sealed and the pipe is pressurized with water vapor. Heat and pressure activate the memory effect of the plastic tube. The AGRU SureFIT lining regains its original round shape and settles into the old pipe like a second skin. Large pipe cross sections are provided with a thermoplastic lining made from AGRUSAFE concrete protection plates. The result is a permanently sealed composite pipe that resists corrosion, abrasion and chemical liquids and gases.

When relining without spacing, a folded HDPE pipe, called AGRU SureFIT pipe, will be pulled into the old pipe.

Renovate with spacing
In renovations with spacing between the old and new pipe, the inside diameter is reduced because the new HDPE pipes are placed inside the existing pipe. This inevitably results in an annular gap between new and old pipe. The reduced transport capacity is partially compensated by the smooth surface of the new HDPE pipe. Renovation is done with coiled HDPE AGRULINE pipes in standard lengths of 100 m and an outer diameter of up to 90 mm. For larger diameters, individual HDPE AGRULINE pipes can be step-welded together and pushed into the old pipe. The entire dimensional range of available HDPE AGRULINE pipes (from OD 20 mm to OD 3500 mm) can be used for relining.
