Advisor movable bridges and locks 1

Your work will ensure that bridges and locks in South Holland continue to function safely, today and in the future. You will be working on technology that directly affects the daily lives of millions of people. The combination of social relevance, technical depth and cooperation makes this job unique. Here you get the space to make a real difference. Read on and discover how your efforts are indispensable for our infrastructure. Your work. Our province.

This is what you will do

Zuid-Holland is moving, literally. As a movable bridge and lock consultant, you will ensure that bridges and locks continue to operate safely and reliably. Whether it's a busy shipping route or a bridge that thousands of vehicles cross every day, your work makes a difference.

You play an important role in asset management of the province's 90 moveable structures. You develop maintenance strategies, draw up programs of requirements and translate policy into concrete measures. You direct all parts of the PDCA cycle. You work closely with colleagues from various disciplines, maintain contact with stakeholders and other managers and ensure that the implementation of projects runs smoothly.

Your work doesn't just take place behind a desk. You visit sites for inspections and deliveries, keep your finger on the pulse during maintenance and constantly look for innovations and opportunities for improvement. You think ahead, but never lose sight of the present.

What else are you going to enable?

  • Translating policy and strategy into operational measures and vice versa;
  • Collaborate with colleagues from different areas of expertise on joint results;
  • Identify opportunities to make work processes smarter, safer or more sustainable;
  • Analyze performance of objects and manage area data.

Your work is not successful until boating and road users arrive safely at their destination. For that, we desperately need your knowledge and commitment.

This makes the position interesting

  • In this role, you will visibly contribute to safe and well-functioning infrastructure;
  • You will have plenty of room to deepen content and innovate;
  • Work is flexible, with a combination of working from home, working on location and at the county office.

This is your profile

You are analytically strong and think in solutions. You know what it takes to put a technical idea into practice. You move easily in an administrative environment, know how to involve stakeholders in your story and switch smoothly between policy and implementation.

You take responsibility for your own projects and regularly coordinate with colleagues to exchange expertise and achieve common goals. Moreover, you feel at home in an environment where technology, data and social issues come together. And finally, you also possess the empathy for various other roles in the asset management chain.

In addition, you will take the following:

  • A completed college or university degree, preferably in civil, electrical or mechanical engineering;
  • Knowledge of or experience with asset management;
  • Ability to use your creativity and that of others to improve products, processes and collaboration;
  • Experience with maintenance management and Systems Engineering is a plus.

About the Province

The province of South Holland is not only a beautiful part of the Netherlands, but also an interesting government organization. As a middle authority, we are literally in between the central government and the municipalities. More practical than the national government and a larger scope than a municipality. Big enough to make a real impact in the region and small enough for short lines of communication, a flat organization and plenty of room for employees' own input. Together with inhabitants, co-governments, companies, knowledge institutions and social partners we work on solutions. Working for the province means that you play a role in this.

As an employer, we have confidence in our people and their expertise. We take good care of you and you get plenty of room for your own input and initiative. But you have to want to manage things yourself and dare to make your own choices. The frameworks are not always clear. With us, you have to love swimming and personal development. We also value diversity and inclusion. We strive for an organization in which everyone feels safe and at home, regardless of origin, gender, sexual orientation, religion, age, socioeconomic background or ability to work. For that reason, we encourage anyone to apply who can identify with the job profile above.
