When you realize that the structures and bridges for which we as the province of South Holland are responsible can last for more than 100 years, you immediately understand the importance of your role as Advisor on Permanent Structures. From this starting position you will help shape our management and maintenance strategy and strive to bring and keep the bridges and viaducts in good technical condition. You will supervise the necessary inspections (for good advice it is of course necessary to regularly put on your working shoes and go outside) and perform the necessary analyses. You will also test structures for structural safety by performing 1D calculations.
You draw up the maintenance program whereby you determine together with your colleagues when which structure needs maintenance. You will also advise on the scope and quality during the realization of maintenance. You will do this in a project team within the province, from which you will also make a proper assessment together with the consultancy firm and the contractor. You bring different interests together and use your knowledge to come to an integrated advice. Together with your colleagues you are responsible for the necessary data and information for your asset, whereby you are responsible for updating and improving the available information. Finally, you provide content for evaluations of the activities within your asset and work on renewing asset management and service delivery.
It is a varied position in which you work with various parties both internally and externally. The artworks are part of an infrastructural network. This involves many different people within the province. For example, in this role you have a lot of contact and interaction with other consultants (such as traffic engineers, mechanical engineers) or other parts within the organization (such as project leaders, traffic managers and supervisors). You will also work with other road authorities whose roads cross our structures, such as municipalities. Or you will have contact with engineering firms and contractors involved in a maintenance project. The province is the fixed factor in this story and ensures continuity.
You will work in a team with four immediate colleagues who want to take good care of all the artworks together with you, as if it were their own home. Both in the office and via Teams we know how to find each other, and soon you as well, to exchange ideas and we also take the time to get to know each other. You get plenty of room to fill in the details of hybrid working; some work mainly in the office, others mostly from home. We work hard, but also find each other during periodic drinks.
You are analytical, pragmatic and results-oriented. You do not wait, but (pro-)actively look for possibilities and opportunities. You enjoy working with people from other organizational units, disciplines, processes and external parties. You carry out the work independently, but within and in coordination with your team. We allow you freedom, but not swimming. Project-based and task-oriented you work towards results and you actively seek creative solutions for the improvement of products, processes and cooperation.

There are many other interesting fringe benefits. Here we would be happy to tell you more about it.

When you join us, you will contribute to the assignment package of the Execution domain. This domain directs the management and maintenance, or asset management, of the provincial infrastructure.
You will become part of a professional team of about 85 consultants focused on asset management of provincial infrastructure. These advisors work on assignments focused on safety, accessibility and sustainability of provincial infrastructure from different content areas. The consultants draw up appropriate management and maintenance strategies, direct necessary inspections and performance analyses, determine the maintenance program, manage asset data and information, and renew asset management and service delivery.
The province of South Holland is not only a beautiful part of the Netherlands, but also an interesting government organization. As a middle authority, we are literally in between the central government and the municipalities. More practical than the national government and a larger scope than a municipality. Big enough to make a real impact in the region and small enough for short lines of communication, a flat organization and plenty of room for employees' own input. Together with inhabitants, co-governments, companies, knowledge institutions and social partners we work on solutions. Working for the province means that you play a role in this.
As an employer, we have confidence in our people and their expertise. We take good care of you and you get plenty of room for your own input and initiative. But you have to want to manage things yourself and dare to make your own choices. The frameworks are not always clear. With us, you have to love swimming and personal development. We also value diversity and inclusion. We strive for an organization in which everyone feels safe and at home, regardless of origin, gender, sexual orientation, religion, age, socioeconomic background or ability to work. For that reason, we encourage anyone to apply who can identify with the job profile above.
