Trees harvested using the cascading principle

Felling trees according to the cascading principle

From felling a solitary tree to clearing 10,000 trees for the construction of a new highway, tree felling company Weijtmans is at home in all markets. The family business distinguishes itself primarily by using a cascading principle with as many as 27 different assortments to return uprooted timber as high as possible in the chain. The use of truly unique equipment also limits inconvenience and guarantees safety at all times.

With four European Tree Technicians and many certified European Tree Workers, tree lifting company Weijtmans is able to carry out projects in a high-quality and safe manner. "Safety has absolutely top priority," stresses director Kees Weijtmans. "We use the motto 'we work safely or we don't work'. With us, every employee has the authority to stop a job in case of doubts about safety for both our people and those of road users or other stakeholders. With over 45 employees, we operate throughout the country and sometimes make a trip just across the border at our neighboring countries."

Unique equipment

"Unlike many of our competitors, we work on the cascading principle," Weijtmans continues. "We try to return all the wood as high up the chain as possible. Only what remains is shredded. That's not a given in our industry." Also not obvious in the industry is the specific equipment Weijtmans develops mostly in-house. "For example, we have four telescopic cranes equipped with a unique saw clamp. The clamp consists of standard components, but the rotating mechanism with motors in combination with a planetary gear system, is unique. With this clamp, we stabilize the tree. Then the branches are cut off and we can put the tree away in a controlled way. The special mast can handle a torsional force of as much as 60,000 Nm. Finally, we also have an eye for the environment and take responsibility. Thus we drive the entire fleet on HVO 100 fuel and at the end of this year we will take our first electric 16-ton mobile crane into service."
