A reliable partner in geogrids for 40 years

Tensar International has been developing geogrids since 1980. 2023 was a special year for the company. Not only was the fourth generation of geogrids presented, but also the online software Tensar+ was launched. This allows users to enter the parameters themselves for a project-specific comparison based on construction costs, construction time, CO2 emissions and MKI value.

In civil engineering, geogrids are eagerly used because their application ultimately brings significant cost and environmental benefits over traditional solutions. Speaking is Paul ter Horst of Tensar International. "We started developing the first generation of geogrids over forty years ago and continue to constantly innovate the product. With the fourth generation, we are once again setting the tone."

Full scale testing

For Tensar, it is not so much the product features that are important. "What matters is that our products contribute to increasing the performance of the overall solution," says Paul. "By applying our products you get better performance with regard to construction costs, construction time and CO2 emissions. And the great thing is, thanks to our wide range, we can offer and calculate a specific solution for each project. This prevents overkill. If you're going for the best of the best, we prescribe our latest Tensar InterAx, the newest and most advanced form of geogrid stabilization available on the market. If the need for performance is not so high, we recommend our H-series. So we tailor our products not only in terms of type, but also in terms of performance to the needs or requirements of a project. Unlike other producers of geogrids, we substantiate that performance in accordance with CROW1001, based on full scale testing and not on single (laboratory) tests."

Tensar updated the EPDs of all its geogrids to fully cradle to grave as early as 2022. "They are included in the National Environmental Database (NMD) in order to determine a valid EQI score in DuboCalc, among others," says Paul. "We have shown in 2023 that we are able to improve the performance of our geogrids again. And with our free and freely accessible cloud-based Tensar+ design software, engineers, contractors and clients can mirror the effectiveness of our geogrids against an application without a geogrid. In order to optimize a structure with a longer life and lower LCC." In short, more chances of winning a project. Courtesy of the reliable partner in geogrids.
