In many large and small construction and infrastructure projects, it is important to minimize disruption to the public and bystanders. To this end, public access must be in good order. In many cases, temporary public-access infrastructure will need to be provided. Think of bridges over ditches and (rail) roads, stair constructions, floor structures for a train platform or sidewalk for example, towers and gates for cable crossing over roads and many other applications.
Cable bridge Campina: A wonderful project: making a cable bridge in the cold store at Campina. We can also take on this job because we work with clean materials.
"Unlike other companies, which focus primarily on the infrastructure of construction workers within a construction project, we are solution-oriented in guiding public flows safely and properly on and around a construction site. And then the construction has to meet other requirements and our specialty comes around the corner." Speaking is Raymond van Noort, manager of sales & marketing at Gigant International BV. "Our origins are in the festival and event industry. However, we see that our knowledge and expertise -focused on applications for audiences- and the modular construction systems we work with are also very applicable in other sectors." With over 35 years of experience in the event industry, Gigant Temporary Infrastructure is taking its experience to the construction and infrastructure sector. This branch of Gigant focuses on designing, building and constructing temporary project-specific infrastructure solutions in the construction and infrastructure sector.
Supernova Antwerp: Gigant created an extensive event location in the middle of the city center. A wonderful assignment where the location was optimally utilized using a temporary pedestrian bridge with 18m free span.
Everything under one roof
"The process during the realization of a project is characterized by solution orientation, computational reasoning, safety, guidance and construction. Our draftsmen create 3D models and views to present a good design to the client. The models and load conditions are reviewed by our structural engineers. They advise on safety and also answer any questions from government agencies, for example. Our passionate and professional construction team builds mainly with the Layher-All-round system and with products developed in-house. Because we have everything under one roof, we can act quickly and thanks to our large stock, we can deliver quickly."
Very diverse
In recent years, Gigant has already realized various temporary, publicly accessible infrastructures at home and abroad. Van Noort mentions some diverse projects: "For the opening of the new track and tunnel of the Blijdorp Rotterdam metro station, Gigant was commissioned to close one of the tunnel shafts and provide it with a temporary and publicly accessible floor structure. This was because otherwise there was insufficient space to accommodate all the guests at the opening. We built a custom floor structure over the subway rails in the tunnel trench that was at exactly the same height as the current platform. This created one total floor where all invitees could take their seats.
Another project is the construction of a temporary roof terrace with railings, commissioned by Trudo Real Estate and Bygg Architecture. This structure is built at a height of six meters and the staircase construction, also built by us, provides access to the terrace." Finally, Van Noort mentions the temporary bridge Supernova. Gigant created an extensive event location in the middle of Antwerp's city center. "A wonderful assignment where the location was optimally utilized using temporary infrastructures. While this latter project is one from the event sector, it shows that we handle projects of such magnitude. But you can also come to us for a temporary bridge over a ditch!" laughs Van Noort.
