For Van der Kamp Pumps, AWP 2.0 is a special project. "Usually we act as a subcontractor for a contractor, but in this project we are part of the contractor combination," says director Rick van der Kamp. "We were asked by GMB Water Quality & Installations as early as the tender phase to help think of solutions, together with the other PAUW partners. A method that led to the winning design. For us it was also a great opportunity to be able to assert our expertise as early as the preparation phase. We continue where others stop and operate mainly in the upper segment of the market; the core of our product is the knowledge and engineering capacity we provide."
Simulations of the temporary pumping systems.
And that knowledge comes in handy here in West Brabant. Van der Kamp: "The scope is technically challenging, comprehensive and has many interfaces with the work of the other PAUW partners." The existing pumps at the pressure stations in Roosendaal and Bergen op Zoom are being replaced in phases. Roosendaal will be the first to be replaced at the end of December. Meanwhile, Van der Kamp Pumps has already installed the first temporary pump installation in Roosendaal. "We are obviously anticipating the effective replacement of the existing pumps. The moment our installation is installed and tested, the signal goes to safe and the existing installation can be dismantled. In both pressure stations, we are phasing in two temporary installations. They are dry-mounted sewage pumps equipped with a vacuum system for the purpose of priming."
Van der Kamp Pompen's temporary pump installations have a modular structure. "Basically, after replacing the existing pumps there, we can move the two installations in Roosendaal to Bergen op Zoom," outlines Van der Kamp. "Here they will then be combined in a different way to meet the different requirements at this pressure station. So we use one pump type, but the construction differs. In Bergen op Zoom, for example, a slightly higher pressure and lower capacity is required. We can offer that flexibility with our modular installations. We also write the PLC software ourselves, in such a way that Hoppenbrouwers can integrate the temporary installations at a higher level into the existing control system and the continuity of the wastewater transport remains guaranteed."
Since 1991, Van der Kamp Pumps has specialized in the rental of temporary pump installations for transporting wastewater, surface and industrial water and fire-fighting water. The family business operates both in the Netherlands and (far) abroad and will soon even open its own branch in the United Kingdom.
