The specialized knowledge, in-house engineering department and the ability to process larger structures and thicker steels and transport them sustainably (by water) also appeals to third parties.
"Traditionally, we provide support to Sterk BV, allowing our parent company to offer a wide range of services," begins René Alink, Manager of Technical Operations. "Among other things, we provide maintenance and repairs to our stock of steel sheet pile walls, but we also prefabricate complete outrigger structures and braking and guidance works. We also find that clients are increasingly finding us directly. We were recently approached to produce masthead foundations for 5G masts. We then kill two birds with one stone because in this project we can again use our parent company to install the foundation piles."
Strong Metal's focus is primarily on thicker steels. Alink: "Our range is between 8 and 300 millimeters in thickness. Usually we process material between 20 and 50 millimeters thick. Our welding hall with a lifting door 35 meters (!) wide is fully equipped to create large elements. The hall in Drachten is located on the water, which means that we can transport large constructions via water without any problems and in a sustainable way." Strong Metal has its own engineering department, handles (3D) drawing work and has certification on virtually all welding positions up to high steel grades and substantial steel thicknesses. "Since 2016, we have also been NEN 1090 certified up to execution class 3."
Strong Metal contributes to a wide variety of projects. "Constructions are often prefabricated at our premises in Drachten, but our welders also come on site. For example, we are currently working for Levvel on the realization of various anchoring and alignment structures on the Afsluitdijk. The quality of the welding work is very precise, a project that is right up our alley. We are also active with the necessary construction work for machine building. Machines developed or innovated by Sterk BV are often prepared by Sterk Metaal. A win-win."
